The average high-end Android smartphone has become colossal in several respects over the last few years. However, there is also a demand for the same kind of mobile power in a smaller package, as evidenced by the rise of devices such as the Xiaomi 15 and the Mini version of the Vivo X200 Pro.
They have screens of about 6.3 inches in diagonal length, as opposed to ~6.8 inches in their non-compact counterparts. Now, the eminent leaker Digital Chat Station suggests that they might become foldable in their next generations.
That would most likely mean that they turn into clamshell-style devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 or Motorola Razr+ 2024, but with the relatively small ~3.5-inch secondary screens that those flagship-grade devices seem eager to leave behind.
However, next-gen versions of those same screens might be able to cut down on the frames or bezels around them in order to become smaller and smaller in terms of actual footprint over time.
Accordingly, the alleged new type of foldable could become their own category's "Mini" options in the future. They might also, however, retain flagship features such as IPX8 durability ratings, 50MP rear cameras and the same processors as their 'normal' non-foldable flagship counterparts nonetheless.
The Razr 2024: still $599.99 on Amazon today (January 16, 2025).
