Nubia announced the first-gen Flip as a cheap folding phone in February last year, and the second-gen model is here. It keeps the price tag low but brings some key improvements to the table. Among them is a larger cover screen. While the last-gen foldable had a circular 1.43-inch outer display, the newer device sports a 3-inch rectangular screen on the outside.
This larger cover screen has a resolution of 682 x 422 pixels and can show quick incoming notifications. The company didn't explicitly mention whether the cover screen of Flip 2 can run apps like some of the other folding phones, such as the Galaxy Z Flip 6 (512 GB curr. $949 on Amazon). However, it should be able to offer some app navigation.
As for the internal screen, it's the same 6.9-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution. It houses a 32 MP selfie camera in a punch-hole cutout, while the back sports a dual-camera setup, which appears to be the same as the predecessor. That is, the back of the Nubia Flip 2 still has a 50 MP primary sensor that's paired with a 2 MP depth camera.
Under the hood, the Flip 2 sports the Dimensity 7300X, which is a small upgrade over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 that the predecessor came with. This MediaTek SoC is paired with 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM, and as for the software, the folding phone runs on Android 14.
Other notable aspects of the Nubia Flip 2 include a 4,300 mAh battery with support for PD 3.0, IPX2 waterproof and IP4X dustproof ratings, and multiple AI-powered features. The foldable will be available to purchase in Japan on January 23 at JPY 64,080, which is around $408.
