With strong reviews on the Battlefield 6 release date, many Call of Duty loyalists have considered switching sides. However, creative players have found ways to blend both military shooters into one game. Using Battlefield Portal, a gamer designed a map based on a popular Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare environment. Unfortunately, EA has warned the player not to make further tributes to its rival.
The Battlefield 6 map in question is “Shipment first test”, which pays homage to a 2007 Modern Warfare setting. “Shipment” would develop a faithful following and reappear in other Call of Duty games. Set on a Chernobyl shipping yard, fans relish the action-packed battles its tight quarters encourage.
EA admonished its creator in an email seen by Insider Gaming, citing an “inappropriate reference- third party products”. If the player repeats the offense, there is a risk of a ban from “EA games & services”.
Battlefield Portal rules aren't always enforced equally
The Battlefield 6 map didn’t mention Call of Duty in its title or description. Yet, EA became aware of the creation, possibly through a user report. While Battlefield Portal can construct elaborate battlegrounds, there are limitations. Nevertheless, players point to maps that are obvious imitations of other popular shooters that remain available.
With Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 due out on November 14th, EA is likely keeping a close eye on the competition. The Activision franchise has outsold Battlefield, but Steam player counts suggest that could change. Some fans speculate that Treyarch intentionally extended the Black Ops 7 open beta to a day before the Battlefield 6 release date.
Ironically, players may not need the custom Shipment map to feel Call of Duty vibes. Some critics claim that smaller Battlefield 6 environments resemble those of its opposition. These gamers enjoy the wide-open spaces of past entries in the series that require strategic gameplay.
