The China-based developer Everstone Studio will release Where Winds Meet, its first title on PC and PlayStation 5, published by NetEase Games. The game is described as a multiplayer open-world RPG, where players can explore visually stunning landscapes and sprawling cities, streets humming with crowds, and thousands of stories to hear. Players will be immersed in the epic set in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period of China and will master the martial arts of Wuxia in an open world driven by player choices.
Eric Zheng, head of Publishing at Everstone, shared details about their upcoming epic in a blog post on PlayStation.com. He included snippets about the gameplay, the visual style, the world, and, to the glee of most Wuxia fans, the combat, saying:
You can master traditional weapons like the sword, spear, Mo blade, and rope dart, or try creative ones like the umbrella and fan. Each has its own rhythm and tactics, backed by 12 Martial Arts sets and 23 mystical techniques. For the animations, we teamed up with Stephen Tung Wai, a four-time Hong Kong Film Award winner for Best Action Choreography.
Announced only last year, in May 2024, during the State of Play, Everstone Studios set a list of milestone goals, starting with 1 million players who pre-registered, and would reward players with in-game goodies. The player registration count ahead of their November 14th launch has reached the max 10 million player milestone, and the in-game items will now be available to all players.
These items include gifts, currency, a title, and the ultimate reward, the Swaying Lotus Skin. The studio made another announcement on Twitter, revealing that the preload would begin on November 12th at 22:00 UTC. (48 hours before release) on all platforms. The devs have also planned to livestream the game's global launch.
The game’s pre-registration max milestone being hit isn’t the only indication of how well it’s being received across the globe; it's also ranked #43 with over 500,000 wishlists on Steam. One thing to note is that while the game offers single-player and multiplayer modes, players will need a persistent internet connection for either mode, even if no online component is directly in play.
Where Winds Meet will offer cross-platform multiplayer, allowing PC and PlayStation players to play together. Though the game is free to play, PS players will be able to pre-order the game, and doing so will reward them with some in-game cosmetic items like “In-game Cosmetic Pack x1: Select one of three outfit sets” and “In-game Player Name Card: Astral Trail Name Card Background x1.” The game will go live on the 14th of November on Steam, PSN, and the Epic Games platform, as well as through their own Windows-based client. The launch co-incides with Activision-Blizzard's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 which is also releasing on said platforms on the same day.
