Dead Weight: Prologue - which is the free prologue build of the upcoming RPG Dead Weight - is now available to play on PC via Steam. It launched on December 17, 2025 and is being offered as a free-to-play early slice of the full game.
The game has been developed by Klukva Games and published alongside Spaghetti Cat. It introduces players to the opening chapter of the steampunk-leaning tactical RPG. Players play as Arn, a barbarian, and are tasked with exploring the first region of the game while attempting to rescue a character named Berry from the Mad Oracle.
The prologue features turn-based tactical combat on small, grid-like battlefields where careful movement and positioning are key. Battles pit the player’s group against goblins and other foes, with mechanics that allow enemies (and potentially allies) to be pushed into the environment’s hazards.
Players can upgrade their flying pirate ship, hire crew members, and gain access to more than 20 skills and items as they progress through the introductory content. The prologue also has multiple roguelite elements: exploration, random events, and early character customization.
The game’s world is built around a steampunk fantasy aesthetic that includes floating islands, ancient deities, and a narrative that favors exploration and tactical combat both. The prologue's main purpose is to establish these core themes and mechanics ahead of the full game’s planned release.
Dead Weight: Prologue is available now as a standalone free-to-play experience on Steam. If you'd like, you can enjoy roughly 40-60 minutes of gameplay before the full Dead Weight RPG arrives - currently slated for a 2026 release. The prologue is single-player only and listed with tags such as RPG, strategy, roguelite, turn-based tactics, and steampunk on Steam.
