Where Winds Meet is a new RPG set in 10th century China and that we covered it at launch. The game is completely free to play and earns revenue through cosmetic items in its in-game store – some of which are extremely expensive. One of them is a luxury boat priced at around $40,000. The developers likely expected that someone with deep pockets would buy it sooner or later – and they didn’t have to wait long.
Apparently, someone really did buy the $40,000 item. The story went viral – not because the buyer showed it off, but because they used the ship for open community events that anyone on the server could join. On November 22, artist Julia (@Julia_CaSsian) – known for creating emotes for streamers like Cohh Carnage – shared a 36-second video on X. The clip shows players exploring the massive boat, dancing, playing mini-games and watching fireworks.
The featured item is the Mirage Boat – a purely cosmetic mount with high prestige value, available only for real money. It follows fixed routes, and the owner can invite others on scenic rides. At certain times, the boat even travels automatically through the open world, letting anyone hop on for free. That’s exactly how the buyer is using it: regularly opening it to the community, hosting small events and letting players try out all the outfits without owning them. However, it’s still unclear which server the boat is currently sailing on.
Not everyone is enthusiastic
Reactions to the video on X have been mostly critical. Some users mocked the boat’s high price, while others speculated that the purchase was a PR stunt by the developers. The same theory is circulating on Reddit as well, though the overall tone there is somewhat more positive.
