The Acer Nitro 5 Spin is a sleek convertible that has enough oomph to play games on lower settings.

The Acer Nitro 5 Spin is a power-packed 2-in-1 gaming laptop. Right now, there’s nothing else quite like it in India, which is why it commands a slight premium of Rs. 91,990 for the top-end model. If you’re not going to travel a lot with your laptop and will be using it mostly on a desk, then you can find gaming models with slightly better specifications from Dell, Lenovo, and even Acer, at around this price. The Nitro 5 Spin is available through the company's authorised stores but you can also find it on Flipkart. The online price fluctuates quite a bit, and we once saw this very model going for as little as Rs. 83,990 during our review period.

A notebook suitable for everything? Is the Nitro 5 Spin the holy grail for the mainstream user? In some cases, yes. Thanks to its versatility, decent price, good performance and sturdy build, this laptop can easily win over plenty of users that need a stable daily driver with a touchscreen and enough horsepower to run the latest games at low to medium settings.

Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN515-51-54YF
If gaming on the go is your cup of tea, there are plenty of devices on the market to choose from, but usually, those options are not very budget friendly. However, with Acer’s Nitro lineup, users would still be able to game on the go while keeping some change in their wallet. One of the devices in this lineup is the Aspire Nitro 5, a pretty good choice, although it does have some flaws. Checking what the notebook is loaded with, it is Intel’s Core i7-7700HQ processor, which is pretty much standard in notebooks of this class, 32 GB of memory, more than you could ever need, a combination of a 512GB SSD and 1TB of storage, and, last but not least, the Nvidia GTX1050Ti. Aesthetics-wise, the Aspire Nitro 5 commands a gaming look with its black and red accents that are all too common in the gaming-notebook market, aside from a few exceptions. In terms of chassis design, the Aspire Nitro 5 is primarily constructed out of brushed metal-like plastic, which gives it the solid and rigid feel expected of a notebook of this caliber. Overall, the Aspire Nitro 5 is not really in your face, which means it can still suit certain stricter environments, such as work or school. One thing to note here is that the Aspire Nitro 5 is on the heavy side at 2.5 kg, meaning you either have to have a sturdy bag or a strong shoulder if you decide to lug this around on a daily basis. But generally, the notebook remains practical by all means. Regarding IO, the Aspire Nitro 5 is pretty standard with 3 USB Type-A ports, 1 USB Type-C Gen-1 port, full-size HDMI, LAN, a card reader and an audio jack, which is plentiful for a notebook of this size.
Jumping over to the input devices, the Aspire Nitro 5 generally does well. Its keyboard, with well-spaced keys and decent key travel, does not feel mushy, which is good, although this might irk hardcore typists as it does not have a solid click to it. It should also be mentioned that the keyboard is backlit. As for the touchpad, it is pretty much half and half, depending on the user, as an integrated clickpad and touchpad leads to accuracy issues, not to mention having actual click buttons is always better. At least the clickpad is smooth enough for fingers to glide without resistance. Moving over to the screen, the Aspire Nitro 5 is equipped with an IPS FHD panel that is about average in terms of brightness and color vibrancy. Viewing angles are what they should be on an IPS panel, however, if you would like to create media content on the side, you will be disappointed to learn that the IPS panel only scores about 69% on the sRGB spectrum. Then again, you get what you pay for. While battery life is never a topic of conversation when it comes to gaming notebooks, it is worth mentioning that the built-in battery seems to be on the lower spectrum of things. It allows for only 1 hour and 10 minutes of intense gaming or about 3 hours and 30 minutes on Wi-Fi. For gaming on the go, at least some decent battery life would be nice, but as it is, the Aspire Nitro 5 is a reasonable offer, as long as your expectations are set right.

People occasionally ask me for advice when they want to get a new computer, some even come up to me and ask if this gaming laptop is good or that gaming laptop is good and my usual reply is, “will you be always outside playing games or just at home?” We all know that for the price you are paying for a gaming laptop, that amount of money could get you a gaming desktop PC which in fact, will run the game much better than an expensive gaming laptop. However, Acer has blurred the line between gaming laptop specs and price with the Acer Nitro 5 because, for the price tag of RM3,299, you will be getting similar specs as what you would spend when paying that same amount to get a gaming desktop computer. However, being reasonably priced gaming laptop is one thing, let’s dive in and see what will you get with this laptop.

The Acer Nitro V AN515-51 offers the combination of an Intel Core i7 7700HQ with an NVIDIA GTX 1050 (4 GB) at a very attractive price point. It’s this configuration and Acer’s aggressive pricing that should see the Nitro V turning out to be one of the most popular gaming laptops under Rs.1 lakh.

Not everyone can afford a monster gaming laptop, so it’s great to see Acer delivering 1080p performance at a reasonable price. The Nitro 5 might not be the prettiest or lightest laptop around, but if you want high frame rates, those are sacrifices you’ll have to make.

Finally, the cooling system seemed to have done its job pretty well even during our long and heavy stress test – neither the CPU or the GPU throttled while the latter was running surprisingly cool. We are not sure, however, if the Intel/NVIDIA version will do just as well with the same cooling design, which, by the way, proved to be quite bad in numerous other cases – Acer Predator Helios 300, Lenovo Legion Y520, etc.

Acer Nitro 5 Spin NP515-51-86CX
The Acer Nitro 5 Spin is an ultra-slim, super-light convertible touchscreen laptop. It provides maximum versatility for the casual gamer. Featuring a sleek body with metal chassis, the Nitro 5 Spin uses powerful components and popular features to give user the tools they need to conquer any battlefield. User can just rotate the revolutionary 360° dual-torque hinge and watch this handy machine convert into a laptop, display, tent or tablet. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin features a vivid, 15.6” Full HD IPS display and enough battery life to keep user powered up all day long. The Nitro, has a dark metal look with red gaming highlights. The display cover features an Acer logo with a brushed hairline finish in the center. It is connected to the base by two stable red hinges which is also in aluminum look. The red highlights of the Nitro continue to run like a thread throughout the entire design concept. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin has a footprint of 38.1 x 25.8 cm (~15 x 10.2 inch) and is 1.79 cm (~0.7 inch) high. The Spin's 1,920 x 1,080 touch screen is not too shabby. The glossy 15.6-inch display produces rich hues and sharp enough details. Display size and resolution result in a pixel density of 141 PPI. The Nitro 5 is bright, averaging 296 nits. The touch panel is both fast and accurate too. The Acer FineTip keyboard and the snugly fitted number block have red lettering that is sufficiently easy to read. The entire keyboard is slightly sunk into the base unit, so that the device can be used easily in tablet mode without the user pressing a key by mistake. What is striking about the Nitro's keyboard is not only the red lettering and the red sides of the keys, but also the red WASD keys for gamers, further highlighted by bold lettering. On the right side of the keyboard, users will find a USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader, a headset jack, a secure lock slot and buttons for power and volume. A pair of USB 3.0 ports reside on the left with a USB Type-C port, full-size HDMI and a DC jack. Instead of adding a Gigabit Ethernet port, Acer is using its ExoAmp antenna and 2x2 MU-MIMO wireless tech to ensure that the laptop is able to maintain a stable wireless signal. The hardware configuration of the Nitro 5 Spin with Intel Core i7-8550U gives the Nitro a base clock rate of 1.8 GHz. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin has a main storage device, which is a 256 GB SSD from Micron with an M.2 form factor and a 6-Gbps SATA interface. The Acer Nitro offers very satisfying system performance. It is equipped with a GeForce GTX 1050 from Nvidia. The device can display current games at medium details, and sometimes even at high details thanks to this mid-range GPU. Display upgrade vs. SSD downgrade. On the outside, the Acer Nitro 5 Spin is easily recognizable as the gaming version of the Acer Spin 5. However, trying to find other differences between the two convertibles is more difficult - there do not seem to be any at first glance. Is the Nitro hoping to reach gamer status by its red stripes alone, or does it have more to offer? We have put it to the test.

Not quite a gaming laptop, but not totally a work machine, the Acer Nitro Spin 5 tries its best to be a Jack- of-all-trades. But sometimes your best is not good enough. For $1,099, you get a system that can turn from laptop to tablet, which makes it extremely versatile -- especially when you throw in the optional Active Stylus. And the discrete graphics, comfortable keyboard and surprisingly good audio bolster the Nitro 5 Spin's case.

Our initial run through with the notebook has been pleasant, though we’ll have to run a few high-intensity games like Far Cry 5 on it to really see what it’s capable of. Overall, if we based the laptop on its specs alone, this laptop can be included in our recommended gaming laptops but of course, there is the issue of how much it costs. The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-79N0 is priced at Php59,999 (see price listing here). At this price range, we do not advise users to make this device as their top pick for a gaming laptop. At this point, users can already find gaming laptops equipped with a GTX 1060 GPU like the Acer Predator Helios 300.

Comparing the new Acer Nitro 5 to the older model – it’s definitely a more refined product in every direction, and most notably – the CPU. With its 15W TDP, the Ryzen 7 2700U is miles ahead of the FX-9830P used in the last AMD combo. It has a huge performance boost, thanks to the new “Zen” architecture while using three times less energy to do so – quite impressive. The configuration we tested also came with a GPU that makes a debut on the market – AMD Radeon RX 560X, which is nearly as good as the desktop version of the chip.

The Nitro is fine for casual gaming or general-purpose use, but we there are better options out there. That's not to say it's a bad machine (far from it, actually). Not only can it play most triple-A games at 1080p, fan noise is hardly audible. We also really like the sophisticated look and the reasonable starting price. That said, there were a number of trade-offs.

Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN515-51-56UX
The Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN515-51-56UX is a 15.6-inch laptop that was released a little over a year ago, but Acer continues to refresh the range with new Intel and AMD processors. However, with a thickness of 28 mm and 2.7 kg on the scale, the Nitro 5 is not really the ideal travel companion. The Nitro 5 does not have the appearance of a typical gaming notebook - no big logos or multicolored lid. But its stylized vents and keyboard with red backlight still prevent confusing this laptop with a simple desktop machine. The keyboard is rather pleasant to the touch and spacious. The ZQSD keys have an accentuated backlight, and there is even a small numeric keypad. The touchpad is soft, responsive and supports multiple gestures of Windows 10. But it is a clickable touchpad, which means there are no right and left mouse buttons. The laptop is equipped with a Core i5 7300HQ, 8 GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card with 2 GB of dedicated memory. At the graphics cards level, there is no big difference between the GeForce GTX 1050 and the GTX 1050Ti, but it will give a little more room to manage future games. Storage and RAM are both easily accessible from the bottom of the machine. Users can add a 2.5-inch hard disk and/or more memory.
As for the display, the Full-HD screen offers good off-axis visibility, but the colors lack a little sparkle. However, it is a forgivable shortcoming at this price level. As for battery life, do not stay too far away from a power outlet. It has an average battery life of 5 hours 30 minutes on WiFi connectivity. It is rather good for a gaming laptop, but not really for more general everyday use. If a user plays on battery, they should not expect it to last more than two hours. On the other hand, if a user considers this machine as a replacement for a desktop PC, they should be very satisfied with its connections. There are a USB-3.1 Type-C port, two USB-2.0 Type-A ports, a USB-3.0 Type-A port, an SD-card reader, an HDMI output, a headphone/microphone combo jack, and a Gigabit-Ethernet port. No optical disc drive, but the available connections will allow you to use an external drive. Thanks to the device’s rich connectivity, users can easily add a keyboard, a mouse, speakers and even an external monitor to use it as a desktop machine while maintaining good performance to play nomadic if necessary. Its finish is not first class, but it is not inevitably unacceptable, especially if a user plans for a sedentary use.

Budget gaming laptop. With the Nitro 5, Acer offers a 15-inch notebook for price-conscious gamers. It features a 6-core CPU, 16 GB of RAM, and a 512-GB SSD for less than 1,500 Euros (~ $1,760). The matte Full HD display is driven by a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

We could forgive the cheap plastic back cover, the basic keyboard, and the heavy weight. But for a gaming laptop, there’s hardly any excuse for the tacky trackpad and the average screen. Budget gamers will rejoice on the price, but hardcore ones will find very little to delight in.

Obviously trying to get a gaming PC to an affordable price point has its pitfalls, and the Nitro 5 has some obvious ones that need to be addressed. 4GB of RAM in a gaming machine is less than ideal and is one of the biggest bottlenecks in the notebook. Thankfully additional RAM isn’t that expensive (usually around 2.5K per stick). You can also add an SSD drive to the notebook if you need faster performance for selected games.

The Nitro 5 is Acer's budget gaming notebook in the sub $1000 category. It's one of the best value gaming laptops available in stores these days, and a pretty good device overall few flaws. The 2018 update improves on last year's models and gets modern Intel Coffee Lake hardware and a slightly better screen, but still runs noisy under load and packs fairly modest speakers. Carry on with the article below for all the bits and nits.

While Intel and Nvidia still call the shots in the high-end segment, AMD is quite well-positioned in affordable laptops. The best example is the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42 with a Ryzen 7 2700U and Radeon RX 560X, which can be purchased for less than 1000 Euros (~$1132). Do the competitors need to shiver? We will find out!

Even for $670, Acer's AMD Nitro 5 is hard to recommend, mostly because of its underwhelming performance and graphics. To top it off, the battery life and speakers are equally subpar. If you're set on getting a Nitro 5, you might as well pick up the newest model, which starts at $729 and sports a 9th Gen Core i5 CPU and a GTX 1050 GPU. Even the Intel version of this model offers stronger performance and better battery life for $789 on NewEgg. Overall, the Nitro 5 fails to hit the mark, even for a budget gaming laptop.

Overall a performant combination, a single APU is still at times limited – if not by its own innate performance than by the clockspeeds and total throughput the low-TDP part can sustain. So what do you if you need more performance, particularly GPU performance? As always, you go the tried and true route: you add a discrete GPU. Acer has done just this with their Nitro 5 laptop, which in the case of the model we're looking at today, pairs up a Ryzen APU with a Radeon RX 560X GPU in order to produce a thrifty, entry-level gaming laptop.

Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN515-54-53Z2
I think it would be fair to say that Acer is kind of the king of budget gaming. Considering the variety of models they provide and from the point of hardware they come with, yes, it is pretty fair. So, Nitro 5 models come with new generation of processors and GPUs now. Performance gain? Maybe only slightly. But still you get the latest tech pretty cheap compared to what is available on the market. Of course, you won’t be able to get the “top” GPU for around 800 to 1,000$, that would be a dream. But what you get is still pretty decent. Of course you have to make compromises, in terms of case quality for instance or heating. Compared to previous years models there is not much of a change happening overall. Slight performance increase is something, but some problems as noise production and heating might still be continuing. Would you be a happy gamer when you buy Aspire Nitro 5? It depends. As I said it is not the “best”, because it is just a budget model. But is it all worth it? Definitely, yes. Could it have been better? With this price, I would doubt that. If you need higher specs, you should again look for higher end devices, maybe the Predator Helios series or MSIs GS65 models. But those won’t be as cheap as new generation Nitro 5 models, just keep that in mind. Overall, if you are a casual gamer or most of the time what you play is games like League of Legends, CS:GO, or Overwatch, APEX, it will do the job. I guess, I don’t have to say that you wont be able to stream at the same time, because that is something else and would be too much for the current specs. But for a casual gamer, the new Nitro 5 generation should be enough. If you know what to expect, you won’t be disappointed. Just don’t play everything on high or very high settings and you should be fine. On the other hand, if you consider the Nitro 5 for multimedia, programming etc., it will do an outstanding job with the hardware it has. For voice editing etc. you might feel the need of an external sound card. For video editing a nice external monitor will help you as well. Why I am saying these things? Because, this laptop is relatively cheap with the hardware it is coming. Hands-on article by Ümit Yılmaz GüneşSpecifications

While OEMs currently reserve Nvidia RTX 20-series GPUs for their more expensive gaming laptops, Acer has chosen to equip its attractively priced Nitro series with GeForce GTX 1600-series chips. Read on to find out how the entry-level model performs in our detailed review. Update: Affordable Core i7-9750H variant is around 21% faster

Honestly the only aspect of the Nitro 5 that gives me pause is longevity. Look at that Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark again: The GTX 1650 struggles with a four-year-old game. You’re definitely not going to max out most of 2019’s biggest releases, and it’s only going to get worse from here.

The Acer Nitro 5 is worth considering if you’re in the market for a laptop either to play the likes of Fortnite or Apex Legends and squeeze in a bit of coursework or Instagram snooping on the side, and not have to spend over a grand for the privilege. It’s a great value for money laptop that hits a lot of the right points. However, in terms of performance, it’s virtually on par with the Dell G5 15 from last year, which you can now pick up for a little less money. When you consider the Acer Nitro 5 features some of the latest components, that’s not a good look. Then again, the Acer Nitro 5 boasts a slick design and a keyboard that’s more comfortable to type on, and the screen’s a little nicer to look at than that of the Dell G5 15, too.

Of course, we’ll have to wait for our review units to see how the new hardware actually performs and whether the cooling can keep it in check, as well as whether the audio rises to the hype. My potential concerns still go towards noisy fans and high-case temperatures in long gaming sessions, as well as on audio and the overall panel quality, aspects manufacturers tend to skimp over on budget laptops.

From the short time, we had with the Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-54) we’ve drawn a lot of conclusions – both for the device and for the new GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. As far as gaming is concerned, expect high framerates and possibility of max settings at Full HD. Additionally, if you opt to drop the eye candy a little bit you’ll be able to fully enjoy the 144 Hz display, which by the way is a very good panel. Apart from the comfortable viewing angles and high contrast, inherent to an IPS panel (BOE NV156FHM-N4K (BOE082A)), it covers 94% of sRGB and manages to represent color very accurately with the help of our Gaming and Web design profile.

The updated Nitro 5 is a solid gaming laptop for casual gamers who want middle-tier performance at an entry-level price. This machine's plastic body is a bit chunky, but the 9th Gen Core i5 processor and Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU more than make up for the chassis.

For less than $900, this 17.3-inch version of Acer's Nitro 5 bargain gaming rig plays top games at top quality settings at close to 60fps. Its screen is merely adequate, but the laptop as a whole is a great value.

Since we were big fans of the 15-inch version of the Nitro 5, we expected this laptop to build on it, given its great screen. However, we are left slightly disappointed. It comes that you should better get the smaller unit, or go for the HP Pavilion Gaming 15 2019.

Acer's Nitro 5 AN515-44 is a combination of the best of both worlds: A powerful AMD Ryzen CPU paired with a high-performance Nvidia Turing GPU. Find out in our review how well these two get along.
Source: Expert Reviews Archive.org version
The combination of a reasonably powerful AMD Ryzen CPU and a decent Nvidia GPU in a laptop costing less than £1,000 was always going to be a pretty good idea, and the upgrade options are nothing if not comprehensive. It's a shame, then, that the screen rather lets the side down, and the sound system could be better. But for a dedicated gaming machine, it’s a solid purchase at this price.

One thing is sure – the competition in the budget gaming market is fierce. So many different notebooks with so many configurations. Indeed, the choice is though, but there are a couple of devices that stand out. Sadly, as of yet, the Nitro 5 (AN515-55) is not one of them. One of the main reasons is the heat and noise it produces. And all of this for performance, which lacks behind – mainly in the CPU department.

The Acer Nitro 5 2020 is a good budget gaming laptop. You get a good amount of firepower but you can easily tell that they had to make some sacrifices here and there. If you simply want a gaming laptop with 10th Gen Intel Core CPU and good GeForce graphics, you can consider this one.

After much evaluation on the Aver Nitro 5, we think that this gaming laptop is really suitable for those who have a limited budget. Granted, a price range of RM3K to RM4K is not really low but considering all the tech specs, gaming setting configuration, the ability to handle Triple A game titles well, and the superb screen panel display, we say this is a pretty cost-effective gaming laptop.

Acer cleaned-up the design, upgraded the thermal module, keyboard and screen options, and updated the hardware specs with this 2020 Nitro5 lineup. On the other hand, the high CPU temperatures in games, corroborated with only limited performance in CPU-heavy loads, plus the poor speakers and smudge-prone black plastic build are some of the aspects that could lead you towards something else. Nonetheless, compromises are normal in this lower price range, and the Nitro 5 is a competitive choice in its class.

If you’re sick of the horrible framerates often seen on laptops with integrated graphics, the Acer Nitro 5 will breathe new life into your gaming sessions. It’s a clear step above ultrabooks in this regard, but you will have to make some sacrifices for this powerful and affordable laptop. If you don’t mind a cumbersome body or a mediocre display, you and your wallet will be very happy with the under-$700 Acer Nitro 5.

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-44)’s 60Hz IPS panel (BOE NV156FHM-N48 (BOE0818)) has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, good contrast ratio, and adequate default settings. However, it uses harmful PWM and it has poor color coverage, only displaying half of the colors found on the Internet, and its pixel response time is very slow – 30ms, which leads to ghosting and not a very pleasant experience for gaming. In our opinion, it’s definitely worth spending a bit more on a 144Hz panel if you’re going to be playing on a daily basis.

The Acer Nitro 5 (AMD, 2020) is hard to beat with its $669 price point offering great performance, ridiculously long battery life and a comfortable keyboard. However, you have to acknowledge that at that price point, you can't be too picky about its mediocre GPU, crummy display and crappy speakers.

That’s a pretty impressive array of ports for a budget gaming laptop like this one, particularly the trio of speedy USB ports and the ethernet interface. A media card reader would have been a nice touch, but its absence on a gaming laptop like the Nitro 5 isn’t a deal-breaker.

You’re not going to find a $670 gaming laptop that’s perfect. In the Nitro 5’s case, you’ll have to settle for a mid-range GPU, a 60Hz display that (in our review model, at least) shows signs of screen bleed, and a fairly bulky and hefty design. That said, we still believe that Acer has managed to squeeze plenty of value out of this particular Nitro 5 configuration, which boasts excellent CPU performance, impressive battery life, and—if you don’t mind sacrificing such high-end niceties as ray tracing—solid 60fps-range visuals from popular AAA games.

The chassis is nice, but clearly inexpensive, since it is plastic. The display is mediocre at best. But, if you are looking for a gaming laptop and are on a serious budget, the Nitro 5 delivers where it matters. It offers good performance, ships with just enough RAM and storage, and offers the upgradability that is lacking in almost all thin and light notebooks. At $669.99 USD, the Acer Nitro 5 is definitely a great value.

The Acer Nitro 5 still is a value option for gaming even in 2021 - 2022. Our AMD Ryzen 9 and RTX 3080 laptop is one of the best performing machines we've tested. In our review we've made an unboxing, disassembly and we've shown some of the upgrade options.

The Acer Nitro 5 has got a lot going for it: a rival-crushing AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU, an impressive Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and a color-accurate, visually satisfying display. Plus, it nailed our video-transcoding and Geekbench tests. The Nitro 5 is an excellent laptop, but its competitors put up a very good fight, especially the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15. It’s only $100 more than the Nitro 5 ($2,499) and packs a Ryzen 5000-series CPU and an RTX 3080 GPU, too. However, if you’re a professional video or photo editor, I’d lean toward the Nitro 5. Its video-transcoding speed is lightning fast, and we all know that time is money. Also, the display is also more color accurate than those on competitors. To sum it all up, the Nitro 5 is a decent laptop, but it struggles to stand out as one of the best in a sea of premium greats.

With the 15.6-inch Acer Nitro 5 model we reviewed earlier this year, Acer pushed its venerable Nitro 5 budget gaming laptop line into midrange gaming laptop territory by outfitting the $1,700 configuration with RTX 3070 graphics and a QHD panel. With this Nitro 5 (model AN517-41-R3NX), Acer further extends into the midrange category by bumping up the graphics to an RTX 3080 GPU and stretching the display to 17.3 inches — albeit with a lower, 1080p resolution. These upgrades push the price north of US$2,000. The bulky, plastic chassis doesn't scream premium gaming laptop or even utter with much confidence midrange gaming laptop. If your goal is to buy the most power and the biggest display for your gaming dollars, then the 17.3-inch Nitro, which is powered by GeForce RTX 3080 graphics and AMD's stellar Ryzen 7 5800H CPU, is worthy of your attention. If you prize performance over design, then the big-screen Acer Nitro 5 and its RTX 3080 graphics offers an appealing value proposition.

I was surprised Acer put an RTX 3080 in the Nitro 5, but having spent time with this laptop, I'm impressed with the overall balance of performance, thermals, and noise levels this unit delivers. It's not as fast in games and demanding loads as the higher-tier 3080 units out there, but it's more affordable and just friendlier to use, thanks to those cooler components and exterior surfaces, and the barely audible fans. This Nitro 5 is still a budget laptop nonetheless, with the compromises you should expect in this sort of an affordable product, that's why I'd expect the 3060 variants to still be the most competitive among the multitude of available configurations.

While laptops with an RTX 3080 offer a whole lot of performance, they are often chunky and can get really hot, which is not something that everybody wants. The Acer Nitro 5, on the other hand, is for those who are looking for a low-priced portable gaming laptop.

The Nitro 5’s screen is a bit on the weak side and the battery life is verging on the dismal, but other than that it’s hard to fault the Nitro 5 when it offers such stunning performance at such a low price. Make no mistake, the Nitro 5 redefines the sort of gaming performance you can expect for less than a thousand pounds. Combine that with the plethora of upgrade options, the surprisingly efficient and quiet cooling system and a pretty good keyboard and the Nitro 5 is a surefire success.

This machine is the king when it comes to the specifications and the price. From the build quality, performance, screen, and other features, this laptop is effective enough to play all of your games. That is if you don’t want to spend more hundreds of dollars on the more premium devices. If you check the compromises you will make by getting this over the 1k-2k machines, then you won’t be disappointed. The 144Hz screen is what impressed me with the price tag it has. To sum up, this Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-59KS is a king-of-the-budget gaming laptop. Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-59KS with the GTX 1650 Ti has its shortfalls as other laptops do, but this 15.6" gaming laptop is the king when it comes to price and performance ratio.

That's the pitch for Acer's latest Nitro 5 iteration, at least, which packs an 8-core Ryzen 7 5800H processor, a GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop 8GB GPU, and an ultra-fast 17.3-inch 360Hz panel for $2,099.99 on Amazon. Sure, there's no optical mechanical keyboard, per key RGB lighting, or fancy magnesium or carbon here (it's mostly plastic) but for gamers, having a fast CPU and a fast GPU might be all that matters, especially paired with such a speedy screen. Most RTX 3080 laptops cost hundreds more.

You can see where Acer has cut some corners to keep the price down, with lots of improvement possible when it comes to the screen and the trackpad for example. Performance is good but not great, and you don't get as many lighting customisation options as you do on some of the rivals to the Nitro 5. Overall though, we think the compromises that this computer makes are compromises that plenty of users are going to be content with. When it comes to the business of actual gaming, the Acer Nitro 5 scores highly, and so we can't complain too much about anything else. Be sure you check out the various configurations and their corresponding prices, but if you want a value-for-money machine that's going to be able to cope with just about every game out there on the moment, this is a laptop that deserves a place on your shortlist.

The Acer Nitro 5’s price does mean that this laptop is rough around the edges. It’s a bit big and heavy, and it doesn’t have particularly good battery life or colour accuracy. The speakers are poor and it’s missing a couple of features. There’s still plenty to like, though. The RTX 3060 is a superb GPU for mainstream games and eSports, the processor is superb, and the Acer is cool and quiet. The keyboard is solid, and the price is right: at £1,149 or US$1,149, this laptop is cheaper than most of the rigs with this kind of hardware. And the sub-£1,000/US$1,000 model with a Ryzen 5 should still be decent for most people. If you can cope with those faults, you’ll find an effective and affordable machine here – a mainstream gaming option that won’t break the bank.

Much like the AMD-variant we tested a few months ago, the Intel-based variant of the 2021 Nitro 5 is a very competitive laptop in its class. This one performed faster in our tests thatn the AMD option, especially with combined loads and games, but also ran hotter, noisier, and lasted for less on a charge. So if you're after the raw performance, the Intel Nitro 5 should be the way to go, while the AMD variant is a more balanced and possibly a more affordable choice.

The Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-57) is a refreshed device that surprises us with its decent performance. The price tag of it isn’t too wallet-stretching but at the same time, it offers a lot of bang for its money. The build quality is just fine for this kind of notebook, sure, that’s an all-plastic build but the device feels sturdy and rigid despite its not-so-premium build materials. The display is a mixed bag – it’s a PWM-free panel which is good for your eyes during long gaming sessions. Also, it has a good contrast ratio and comfortable viewing angles. On the other hand, the color coverage is too narrow which isn’t a big problem if you use it mainly for games but if you want to do some color-sensitive work you should look somewhere else for a machine with a better panel. Unfortunately, the pixel response time is on the slow side so if you want to play fast-paced online shooters probably you’ll spot that. The keyboard is a great unit – it has long key travel and clicky feedback, it has a backlight, a NumberPad section, big Arrow keys, and it is silent which is nice if you’re not alone in the room while gaming.

The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45 is a powerful gaming laptop on AMD with a nice bright display, even if it’s Full HD (I would like to see QHD). But the increased frame rate of 144 Hz will appeal to fans of shooters and MOBAs. The build quality is fine, but it looks cheap. The laptop has a good cooling system that allows it to work at maximum capabilities for a long time. The fans are, of course, loud, so it is better to play in headphones, and speakers lack bass and volume. The laptop is equipped with Nvidia RTX 3070 graphics with ray tracing support. In the next couple of years, this model will run games at maximum settings with all the bells and whistles. All thanks to the Full HD screen.

At that price, it’s incredible value for the hardware and performance you’re getting. Yes, it’s not exactly the most powerful RTX 3070 out there. Yes, there’s definitely some compromises and some cut corners with the laptop. But if all you want to do is get the best value-for-money gaming laptop, it’s hard to argue against the Acer Nitro 5. The Asus TUF Gaming A15 for example also features an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD and a 15.6-inch FHD 240Hz display, but the RTX 3070 in it has even less power at just 95W. It also costs more than the Nitro 5, retailing at RM6,699 which again goes to show that the incredible value that the Acer Nitro 5 is offering. Overall, I think any gamer on budget searching for a machine with the best price to performance ratio would appreciate the Acer Nitro 5. You’ll just want to be prepared to live with the odd quirks and compromises that come with it.

You're likely accustomed to seeing models of Acer’s venerable Nitro 5 budget gaming laptop line with prices comfortably in the triple digits. The company extends the line into midrange gaming laptop territory with this configuration ($1,700 USD, $2,932 AUD at Amazon), which packs a QHD display powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics. Despite its many charms and strong performance, the Nitro 5 takes a close second to the Asus ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition, which remains the best gaming laptop value we've seen lately. The Nitro 5 has an obvious advantage in screen resolution, however: Its 15.6-inch QHD display lends a versatility to the Nitro 5 that makes it an excellent productivity machine as well. If you’re looking for a do-it-all laptop for both work and play, there’s a good argument to be made for the Nitro 5.

The Nitro 5 is among the best gaming laptops in terms of raw performance. However, performance isn’t everything, and the Nitro 5 offers neither the best value nor the best features for the money. It’s the cheapest laptop with an RTX 3080, but as we already mentioned there are other gaming laptops that perform as well or slightly better than the Nitro 5 and cost hundreds of dollars less. Some also have other features like fully programmable RGB keyboards, all-metal construction, or a thinner profile. Unless you need a laptop with an RTX 3080 at the cheapest price possible, you have better options than the Acer Nitro 5.

Yes. The Acer Nitro 5 is an excellent choice for both work and play, we only wish the screen quality was better. Let the Acer Nitro 5’s price not deceive you that this laptop has some hidden flaws. Yes, it’s a bit heavy, it doesn’t have particularly good battery life or color accuracy, but there’s still a lot to like, though. The RTX 3060 is a fantastic GPU for mainstream games and eSports, the Ryzen 7 processor and the Acer runs cool and quiet. The keyboard is solid and comfortable and the price is just right. If you can cope with those few faults, the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R92M is a capable and affordable machine – a decent mainstream gaming option that won’t dent your bank. The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R92M is the latest refresh of the popular Nitro 5 series and brings with it a strong range of components and premium features like an RTX 3060 GPU and AMD Ryzen 7 CPU to help it keep pace with its midrange trappings.

In terms of a great ratio between the performance, value, and price, Acer really hit the sweet spot with this machine. Supported by the latest AMD Ryzen 7 chip, a dedicated RTX GPU, and the pre-installed 16GB of RAM, this laptop packs a punch while being able to keep the price competitive. The 512GB SSD instead of 256GB, the backlit keyboard, and the SuperSpeed USB C are really fine features that we can’t underestimate. For its price, I think it’s really tough to beat this Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R92M, any gaming laptop with higher specs would be twice the price.

Once more, Acer has done a pretty good job to balance between the compromises of low costs, and performance. Ultimately, there are some key features that will make you consider this product. First and foremost – you get very capable hardware that is starting to become the new norm in budget gaming. Moreover, you can scale things up to the potent RTX 3080 and Ryzen 9 5900HX. Surely, enabling the CoolBoost function from the NitroSense app will result in higher noise levels. However, the end result, at least in the configuration we tested, is satisfactory. With neither the CPU nor the GPU suffering from high temperatures. In fact, it was quite the opposite. So if you are looking for an all-around gaming device, that won’t snap your bank account like Thanos with the Infiniti Gauntlet, then the Nitro 5 (AN515-45) is a very good choice. It is not the best out there but offers a lot of the good stuff inside of one affordable package.
