ASUS has just announced the ROG Ally X, its next gaming handheld. Nestled within its ROG Ally X announcement is also a significant update for existing ROG Ally owners with a focus on improving the overall user experience and expanding ROG Ally community options.

ASUS continues to bring new features to its ROG Ally platform, most recently with the release of AMD Fluid Motion Frame (AFMF) support. Arguably, the biggest ROG Ally news of late is the announcement of the ROG Ally X, initial details of which we have covered separately. However, ASUS has also outlined that it various new features are in development for the original ROG Ally (curr. $669.99 on Amazon).

Specifically, the company has confirmed that it is working on Armoury Crate SE 1.5, which is more a package of improvements than a single change. As the screenshot below shows, Armoury Crate SE 1.5 not only contains UI refinements, but also a few new functions. On the one hand, the next major Armoury Crate SE update will add the ability to cycle AFMF within Armoury Crate SE itself, removing the need to dive into AMD graphics settings.

Additionally, ASUS promises that v1.5 will include a link to Windows 11's 'Installed Apps' menu, theoretically reducing the amount of time it takes to uninstall a game or program as a result. Moreover, Armoury Crate SE 1.5 will introduce the option of sharing game profile button mappings with the wider ROG Ally community. Consequently, it will also be possible to apply per-game community button mappings, which is already possible on all Steam Deck models.

On the other hand, ASUS has overhauled the Armoury Crate SE UI with a new design, plus an optional light mode. Furthermore, the company has added new game library layouts and improved the granularity with which you can find your games. Currently, ASUS hopes to release Armoury Crate SE 1.5 in July. We would not be surprised if the company shares more details about the software update when it fully unveils the ROG Ally X though, which will occur on June 2 at Computex 2024 in Taipei.
