Roughly nine months has passed since AYN Technologies released the Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon). Since then, the Odin2 has faced few true competitors in the Android gaming handheld space. For reference, while AYANEO has now launched an Odin2 alternative as the Pocket S. However, it will not begin shipping early Pocket S orders until next month.
In the meantime, AYN Technologies has begun teasing the introduction of a new gaming handheld that should differ from the Odin2 in multiple areas. On the one hand, the company has revealed that the device will weigh roughly 320 g, which would make it one of the lightest gaming handhelds around in its class. For context, the Odin2 is approximately 31% heavier at 420 g. By contrast, the Pocket S is said to weigh 350 g, which is just over 9% heavier than AYN Technologies' forthcoming gaming handheld.
On the other hand, the company has confirmed the inclusion of a Mini LED display. Arguably an unusual choice for small gaming handhelds, the display is slated to deliver 1,100 nits peak brightness, as well as a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 155% sRGB colour space coverage. Moreover, AYN Technologies has outlined that the device will not run Windows. Thus, we suspect that the device pictured below will run Android like the Odin2. Unfortunately, AYN Technologies has not revealed any other details yet.
