AYANEO has now started accepting orders for the Pocket S, the first gaming handheld to launch with a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset. Thus, the AYANEO Pocket S should deliver better performance than the Razer Edge that we recently reviewed, which relies upon the older Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. As expected, the Pocket S also features a 1440p display.
However, AYANEO has complemented this with a cheaper 1080p option. Please note that both displays measure 6-inches across and rely upon IPS technology. With that being said, a few differences exist between the pair:
| 1080p Edition | 1440p Advance Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1,920 x 1,080 | 2,560 x 1,440 |
| Pixel density | 368 PPI | 490 PPI |

| Peak brightness | 400 nits | 400 nits |
Based on the image below, all Pocket S variants share the same other hardware, including LPDDR5X RAM and a 6,000 mAh battery, as well as AYANEO's vapour chamber and 'active air cooling system'. However, it should be noted that while AYANEO equips 128 GB entry-level units with UFS 3.1 storage, all other configurations feature faster UFS 4.0 flash storage instead.
The AYANEO Pocket S starts at $399 with 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and a 1080p display. Alternatively, the gaming handheld can be picked up for $439 with a 1440p display and the same memory configuration. Full pricing details can be found below, with initial shipments set for next month.
