Microsoft hints at Xbox gaming handheld in the works by sending out surveys
The first information about a potential Microsoft Xbox gaming handheld surfaced last year through FTC documents. After that, a recent leak came from a reputed source in March of this year, which suggested that the company is on track to release its first portable gaming console in 2026.
Now, Microsoft is fueling all the speculations revolving around an Xbox handheld by sending out surveys. The survey takers are asked some specific questions. One of them asked about what gaming handhelds the survey takers were using. This question is followed up by asking about their views on gaming handheld PCs and whether it’s important for them to be able to stream games through Xbox Game Pass.
However, the question that’s more interesting than the others is whether the survey takers would consider buying another portable gaming PC in the next five years. Another notable one asks about what made them purchase one, to begin with. These two hint that Microsoft is working on an Xbox gaming handheld.
As for the question about the Xbox Game Pass, it suggests that Microsoft is still deciding whether the company should focus more on its gaming services instead of making its own. Worth mentioning that the March leak suggested that the company is prototyping a new gaming handheld. We still don’t know whether the planned specs are better than what the Lenovo Legion Go or the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme (curr. $599.99 on Best Buy) has to offer.
However, as the potential release is in 2026, chances are that we will see the gaming handheld coming with a Zen 6 CPU featuring RDNA 5 iGPU if Microsoft goes with AMD, of course.
