Rumour has it that Xiaomi could ditch its second screen concept that it introduced with this year's Mi 11 Ultra. Its successor, the so-called Xiaomi 12 Ultra, could do without it completely for some reason.

Xiaomi is expected to lift the lid on the 12 series this month, starting with the Xiaomi 12 and possibly the Xiaomi 12X. According to Digital Chat Station, all Xiaomi 12 series devices will follow the same rear-facing camera design, unlike the Mi 11 series.

Hence, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Ultra should share a camera housing, presumably like the Galaxy S21 series does. The Xiaomi 12 series will have a single punch-hole camera as well, rather than an in-display camera like the MIX 4. For reference, Xiaomi calls this technology Camera Under Panel (CUP).

Digital Chat Station adds none of the Xiaomi 12 series will feature large camera modules, too. Specifically, all camera modules should be less than half the width of their device's body. If Xiaomi adopts a consistent design language across the Xiaomi 12 series, it seems that there would be no space for a second display, a selling point of the Mi 11 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is not believed to be arriving until early 2022. Undoubtedly, the device will launch with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which Xiaomi has already confirmed will power the Xiaomi 12.
