Nokia's first-ever smart TV will be released in India on December 10th. The TV features a 55-inch 4K panel and runs Android 9.0. It will be available on Flipkart for ₹41,999($590).

Nokia has partnered with Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart to unveil its first-ever smart TV. The Nokia 55CAUHDN will be available on December 10th for ₹41,999($590). For now, there is only a 55-inch variant, but the company says that it'll release additional models soon.

The Nokia 55CAUHDN features a 55-inch 4K panel with a 60 Hz refresh rate, 400 nits peak brightness, 1200:1 contrast ratio, and a 178-degree viewing angle. The TV supports HDR and Dolby Vision and uses an ADS panel. It also comes with an integrated 24-watt JBL soundbar speaker that supports Dolby Audio and DTS Tru Surround. Lastly, you get three HDMI ports and two USB ports for all your devices.

The TV is powered by a quad-core CPU clocked at 1 GHz and a Mali 450 GPU. It has 2.25 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. It runs Android 9.0 Pie out of the box and comes with Netflix, Hotstar and YouTube pre-installed. Users can also install their favorite apps via the Android TV Play Store.

For an extra ₹999($14), you can subscribe to Flipkart's extended warranty program. Every product has its share of defective units and sometimes, the problems don't manifest themselves until after the warranty period ends. Additionally, there is always a chance of user-induced damage. The scheme has you covered in both scenarios for a period of three years. There is even a buyback clause, so you can get some guaranteed value out of your TV.

It'll be interesting to see how Nokia's TV fares against offerings from competitors such as TCL, Xiaomi and OnePlus. 55-inch 4K-ready smart TVs from established brands such as Samsung and Sony are prohibitively expensive for an average consumer. Low-cost solutions such as the Nokia 55CAUHDN are the need of the hour and it's good to see other companies stepping in to fill the void.
