Gamers may not encounter PlayStation and Nintendo branding in future Xbox trailers. The video for the multiplatform Minecraft Dungeons 2 omits any mention of these consoles. Before announcing a return to Xbox exclusive games, CEO Asha Sharma hinted at this change in strategy.

Ahead of the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, fans objected to Microsoft displaying PS5 logos in trailers. CEO Asha Sharma stepped in and pledged to reevaluate the multiplatform-inclusive promotions. After confirming a return to Xbox exclusive games at the event, observers may be seeing the first signs of a marketing shift.

A subtle, but significant change

At the showcase, Sharma revealed that Gears of War: E-Day would no longer come to PlayStation hardware. Clockwork Revolution will also only be available on PC and Xbox consoles. Still, it’s a targeted approach since Forza Horizon 6 and Fable are set to embrace rival platforms.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 is another game heading to the PS5, as well as the Switch and Switch 2. On social media, Idle Sloth noted that multiple versions of trailers for the action RPG had surfaced. The video posted on the Xbox YouTube account edited out logos for competing systems. Meanwhile, the identical video on other channels advertises the title as shipping for Nintendo and Sony consoles.

A Fable promotion for Gamescom 2026 shows the same revised marketing. Microsoft had previously adopted the “Xbox games are everywhere” slogan. The move will appease supporters who want more focus on the Series X and S. Even so, it may also hurt sales when the company is already struggling with declining revenue.

The Xbox console install base lags far behind the PS5, and price increases likely won’t close that gap. It’s questionable whether ignoring a release’s multiplatform status makes sense. That said, PlayStation and Nintendo can promote Microsoft projects like Minecraft Dungeons 2 on their own YouTube channels.

If Microsoft relies more on Xbox exclusive games, the marketing debate becomes less relevant. Interestingly, Sony recently began emphasizing PlayStation exclusivity in its own YouTube trailers. Its latest “Only on PS5” campaign is a departure from the tag lines used in earlier videos. Sony is expected to stop bringing many single-player candidates to Steam.
