The XMG Apex series receives a significant performance boost with the addition of AMD's Ryzen 7 7840HS APUs that replace the previously installed Ryzen 7 7735HS. There is also a new WQHD display option and the 17-inch model now features liquid metal for cooling the processor and graphics card.

XMG is refreshing the Apex 15 / 17 specs with AMD’s highly-acclaimed Phoenix processors integrating the powerful RDNA 3 iGPUs and also adds a WQHD display option.

The new L23 version of the Apex series is now powered by the Ryzen 7 7840HS with eight Zen 4 cores instead of the R7 7735HS processors with Zen3+ cores from the initial M23 version. This update boosts the performance by ~20% in Cinebench R23 single core tests and ~25% in multi-core tests. iGPU performance is also significantly boosted thanks to the inclusion of the more powerful Radeon 780M model. dGPU options remain the same, with the RTX 4050 and RTX 4060 SKUs featuring 140 W maximum TGP.

On the display side, XMG now equips both the 15.6-inch and the 17.3-inch models with a 300 nit WQHD IPS display (2,560 x 1,440) capable of reproducing 95% sRGB gamut. The 17-inch model features a refresh rate of 240 Hz, while the 15-inch model is limited to 165 Hz. In addition, the XMG Apex 17 still features the 144 Hz Full HD IPS option with 90% sRGB color space coverage. All displays allow switching the connection between the integrated AMD graphics unit and the dedicated NVIDIA graphics card via a MUX switch. RAM, storage and port specs remain unchanged from the M23 variants.

There is also an update to the cooling system on the Apex 17 model, which now comes with a liquid metal thermal compound for both the AMD processor and the NVIDIA graphics card.

XMG plans to release another AMD Phoenix-based laptop later this September with the Core 16 model. It will feature a 16:10 display, graphics cards up to an Nvidia RTX 4070, a 99 Wh battery and an optional mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Ultra Low Profile Tactile switches.

As far as pricing is concerned, the base configuration of the XMG Apex 17 (L23) that includes AMD’s Ryzen 7 7840HS, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, 16 GB DDR5-4800 RAM, a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD and a FHD IPS display with 144 Hz starts at €1,249. Upgrades include an RTX 4060 for €158, a 240 Hz WQHD IPS display for €95, plus faster DDR5 RAM. On the other hand, the XMG Apex 15 (L23) is available exclusively with the high-resolution 165Hz WQHD IPS display starting at €1,199. For now, only the Apex 15 and Apex 17 with German keyboard layout are available, whereas the non-German keyboard versions for the Apex 17 are expected to see availability in mid-September.
