War Thunder 1.79 "Project X" is now live, Xbox One release coming soon
Those who were looking for a single game that brings together World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and World of Warships — something that WarGaming once promised but failed to do so — should get ready to celebrate because Gaijin Entertainment's War Thunder is on the right path. This vehicular combat MMO title has been offering land/air battles for a while, and the Naval Battles component is now ready to enter a new Closed Beta stage.
War Thunder 1.79 "Project X" is a major update that started to roll out a few hours ago and its nickname points at the many "X-related" changes: the soon-to-arrive Xbox One version of the game, the infamous Fritz-X guided bomb (known for sinking the Italian battleship Roma and as the world's first precision guided weapon deployed in combat), two XM-1 US tank variants (one by Chrysler and one by General Motors), the French AMX-40 tank, and more.
To sum it all up, this massive update brings 13 new ground vehicles, 17 new or updated aircraft, a new location for combined battles (Italy), a new location for air battles with two missions for it (Ladoga with "Frontline" and "Air Supremacy"), as well as a huge amount of various changes that can be checked out on this page.
War Thunder will hit Xbox One consoles with a few exclusive vehicles in tow, but the launch date has not been unveiled yet. In the meantime, those who play the game on other platforms will be able to enjoy a new closed beta test for the Naval Battles component, which includes larger ships than before, including destroyers and cruisers.
If you tried War Thunder a few years ago and decided it's not worthy of your time, you might want to give it another chance. The in-game screenshots and the official update trailer below should help you decide. Once you do that, feel free to drop your comments below and don't be afraid to ask any questions. Although I play arcade battles almost exclusively and sometimes I stay away from the game for months, I might be able to help you out.
