Vuzix touts its new smart glasses as so well-designed they can be worn while working out or training. They are based on the OEM's Ultralite platform for a head-worn, hands-free connection to a smartphone or smartwatch. The new S-variants are also backed to eliminate some typical on-the-go augmented reality (AR) issues that might persist with other glasses.

Vuzix has announced that its latest iteration of its Ultralite OEM Platform is a pair of smart glasses "aimed in part at sports and fitness users". The S AR glasses are rated to serve a heads-up display based on the contents of a mobile device - or a smartwatch, so that an active user could presumably leave their smartphone behind while training.

Accordingly, the user could access AR directions, notifications or fitness-tracking updates such as a heart-rate read-out in a completely hands-free way. The Ultralite S packs microLED displays powered by Vuzix' "advanced" waveguide optics technology, rated to deliver an AR UI free from "the eyeglow or forward light found with other waveguide-based solutions".

Vuzix also hints that they might appeal to users besides sportspeople thanks to their "fashionable and lightweight" design. It will be on show. along with the rest of the OEM's latest Ultralite developments, at the company's booth (#16991) at CES 2024.
