Report reveals Apple's plans for 2nd generation Vision Pro headset
Apple's second-generation Vision Pro headset, codenamed Project Alaska (device identifier N109), closely resembles the first-generation model announced at WWDC 2023, according to information obtained by MacRumors. While maintaining the curved aesthetic and button placement, the new headset features flat and uniform sides without the rounded areas for speakers found in the first generation.
MacRumors states that the early designs reveal two different configurations for the top vents, with one resembling the first-gen vents and the other featuring two clusters of tiny speaker-type holes. The rear straps of the second-gen headset have a much simpler design, similar to flat straps found on laptop bags, possibly hinting at a more cost-effective production process.
In terms of hardware, the second-gen Vision Pro maintains its array of cameras and sensors, including 2 micro-OLED displays, 1 TrueDepth camera, 4 CV (computer vision) cameras, 2 RGB cameras, 2 low-light infrared illuminators, and semi-automatic interpupillary distance adjustment. Connectivity features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, and ultra-low latency audio support. Additionally, there are indications of an external audio accessory and plans for an external battery pack similar to the first-gen Apple Vision Pro.
Scheduled for product validation testing in 2025, the second-gen Apple headset may witness a release in late 2025 or early 2026. While the information comes from MacRumors, a reliable source, it's important to note that Apple's plans are still subject to change, given the distant release date.
