Live speech-to-text transcriptions are displayed on the TranscribeGlass smart glasses in less than a third of a second, enabling individuals with hearing impairments to enjoy conversations with fewer impediments.

The TranscribeGlass provides live speech-to-text transcriptions of conversations to help those with hearing impairments enjoy smoother interactions by displaying the text on a pair of customized Vuzix Z100 smart glasses.

The Vuzix Z100 utilizes a microLED waveguide to project a 640 x 480 pixel monochrome display on the interior of the right lens. The glasses connect to smartphones over Bluetooth and can operate up to two days between charges. Wearers will hardly notice its 1.34 oz. (38 g) weight.

The TranscribeGlass pairs with an Apple iPhone to provide transcription services. Conversations are picked up by the phone microphones, AI-transcribed in less than 300 milliseconds, then displayed on the Z100. On-phone AI transcriptions will be less accurate, but can operate without an Internet connection. Cloud-based AI transcriptions will be more accurate, but might be less private.

The transcription AI natively understands Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese and can translate these conversations live into other languages for display.

The TranscribeGlass has an MSRP of $377, and the AI-powered transcription service requires a $20 per month subscription. Prescription lenses are available for $158 and clip-on sunglasses for $20.

Readers with vision impairments can try a pair of smart glasses that listen and speak to you (like the Lucyd smart glasses on Amazon). Programmers with ideas for special needs smart glasses can create them using the Vuzix Z100 developer edition kit
