Vivo X Fold 4: First certification confirms giant battery in upcoming Zeiss camera foldable
It has been practically confirmed that at least one variant of the Vivo X Fold 3 successor will get a big increase in battery size, despite leakers expecting the next Zeiss-camera foldables to be even slimmer and set a new record in this regard.
Chinese manufacturers in particular are upgrading their flagship smartphones with larger batteries this year. Vivo kicked things off with the Vivo X200 series, which have significantly larger batteries with a capacity of up to 6,000 mAh on board, despite the shrunken case dimensions in some cases. Oppo will soon also make 6,000 mAh the new standard in its Find X8 and Find X8 Pro smartphones, and Xiaomi is expected to follow suit with its Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro. Samsung fans, on the other hand, are likely to lose out in this race, as the Galaxy S25 Ultra is likely to keep its 5,000 mAh battery for another year.
Chinese foldables are also becoming slimmer and lighter in spite of larger batteries, as foldables from 2024 have already shown. Both the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and the Honor Magic V3 offer larger batteries than their predecessors and this trend is expected to continue in early 2025, as an initial certification of the next Vivo X Fold generation now suggests. The successors to the Vivo X Fold3 and Vivo X Fold3 Pro are expected to be the first foldable Snapdragon 8 Elite smartphones (under the model number V2429) and will be released as the Vivo X Fold 4 and Vivo X Fold 5, respectively, in early 2025.
A prominent leaker provided the first clues about the Vivo X Fold 4 series a few weeks ago, hinting at battery sizes of more than 6,000 mAh. This has now been confirmed in an initial certification from Chinese authority TENAA, which, according to Chinese website ITHome, reveals the battery size to be 6,365 mAh. The model number V2429A indicates one of several variants of the Vivo X Fold 3 successor, which are currently only available via import with 5,500 mAh and 5,700 mAh batteries.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
