In our review of the X Fold5, the attractively priced Vivo phone (available from 1030 euros) impresses with its extremely slim and lightweight design. When unfolded, it measures just 4.3 mm and when folded, it is barely thicker than an Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Especially as the Vivo X Fold 5 is lighter than the two flagship smartphones at 217 grams.
That Vivo has managed to equip its foldable smartphone with a huge 6,000 mAh battery is even more impressive. Especially since the high-energy one a even supports fast charging with 80 watts wired and 40 watts wireless. Here, the foldable leaves classic Smartphones look bad. However, It is a shame that the battery life in our battery test is only "good" at around 15 hours. We definitely still see potential for software optimization here in order to reach the endurance of an Oppo Find N5.
The foldable phone gets way too hot in our review
One point of criticism of our review of the Vivo X Fold 5 is the high waste heat, which does not exactly speak for efficient cooling of the foldable phone. Ideally, the maximum temperature under load should be significantly lower than that of the X Fold 5 to ensure a long product life. This is because excessively high temperatures accelerate the ageing of the battery, display and also the processor itself. If the casing of a smartphone becomes increasingly hot, high throttling also sets in to slow down the temperature development.
