Garmin has finally acknowledged the existence of ongoing soft-brick issues on Venu Sq 2 and Venu Sq 2 Music smartwatches. Unfortunately, the company has not provided a timeline for releasing a resolution, let alone what has caused the problem in the first place.

A few months have passed since Garmin released Firmware Version 2.64 for the Venu Sq 2 (curr. $244.99 on Amazon). To recap, the company claimed that the update introduced various bug fixes while also improving its Mobile and Text language packs. However, there are reports that Garmin let a major issue ship with Firmware Version 2.64, too.

Based on multiple owner reports, Firmware Version 2.64 prevents the installation of apps and watch faces. Apparently, this problem even extends to app and watch face updates, not just fresh installations. Specifically, although it remains possible to trigger an app or watch face download, the download fails to finish installing and eventually cancels itself altogether.

There is at least one community workaround, though. Apparently, some Connect IQ installations may not have permission to access a paired smartphone's contacts, location and mobile app storage. Supposedly, providing the Connect IQ app with these permissions has resolved the issue for some Venu Sq 2 owners. Unfortunately, it seems this is only applicable to Android and not iOS.

Currently, Garmin has not confirmed what is causing the issue nor offered any short-term workarounds. Instead, it has provided the following statements on an existing forum thread:

All,

Thank you for your posts. We have other reports of this as well as all reports that have been made here. A ticket has been escalated to our engineers. Once there is more information, I will update you all here.

As mentioned in my previous response, this report has been escalated and is currently being reviewed by our engineers. Once there is any additional update, I will be sure to post it here. We appreciate your patience in this matter and hope to have an update soon.
