Vivo has updated its smartwatch division with the Watch GT 2, which it has presented today in China alongside X300 and X300 Pro smartphones and the Pad 5e tablet, among other devices. Following on from the Watch 5 that launched this spring, the Watch GT 2 retains the squircle-shaped display of its predecessor.
As a result, the Watch GT 2 bears more than a passing resemblance to the Apple Watch Series 11 (curr. $419.99 on Amazon). Doubling down on the similarities, the Watch GT 2 can be paired with an iPhone and a Vivo smartphone simultaneously, although one will need a Chinese Apple account to unlock this functionality. When enabled, this allows the Watch GT 2 to display incoming notifications from both smartphones simultaneously.
According to Vivo, the Watch GT 2 also features a 2.07-inch display set within an aluminium housing. Outputting at 514 x 432 pixels with a 60 Hz refresh rate, the comparatively large display is said to reach 2,400 nits in bright conditions. Also, while Vivo advertises the Watch GT 2 as featuring a 695 mAh battery, this capacity is cut to 595 mAh for the eSIM version.
In other words, the eSIM variant will deliver worse battery life than its Bluetooth counterpart. Specifically, the latter's battery life stretches to 33 days in power-saving mode but drops to 17 days in normal use and 14 days with its always-on display (AoD) activated. By contrast, the eSIM variant only achieves 8 days of battery life when its LTE modem is in use.
Regardless, both variants support sleep and cycle tracking with microphones and speakers installed to handle calls without needing to pick up a paired smartphone. The Vivo Watch GT 2 starts at CNY 499 (~$70) and rises to CNY 699 (~$98) for its eSIM option. Vivo has not commented on global availability though, unlike the X300 series that also launched today.
