Huawei is releasing an update for the Watch GT series. The Watch GT 7 comes in three model versions. The Watch GT 7 Pro has a diameter of 46 millimeters, and its case is made of a titanium alloy. Three color options are available for the Pro model.
The standard Watch GT 7 comes in two case sizes and shapes. The available sizes are 41 mm and 46 mm. The case is made of stainless steel in both versions. For more information on all color options, see our news article announcing the new models. The review of the standard Watch GT 7 is available here. This review focuses on the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro in black.
Case and Features – Pro Version with Titanium and Sapphire Crystal
Huawei uses a titanium alloy case for the Watch GT 7 Pro. The round, 1.47-inch AMOLED display is framed by a hexagonal, non-rotating bezel. The glossy ceramic bezel, with its yellow markings, stands out clearly against the matte case. The bezel sits only slightly higher than the display’s cover glass. Huawei uses sapphire glass for the Pro model.
On the right side of the case are a push-and-rotate crown, a button with a sensor, and a speaker. Only a microphone is built into the left side. The black ceramic back houses numerous sensors. The included wristband fastens with a pin buckle. It is made of fluoroelastomer, has a honeycomb pattern, and is 20 millimeters wide - even though the manufacturer specifies 22 mm.
Changing the strap is easy and tool-free thanks to buttons on the underside of the straps. With the strap attached, the Watch GT 7 Pro weighs 79.6 grams; without it, it weighs 56.6 grams.
Thanks to NFC, the smartwatch can be used for payments. Huawei does not offer an eSIM model of the Watch GT 7 Pro. The smartwatch is dust- and water-resistant to IP69 standards. Huawei certifies the Pro model for diving to depths of up to 40 meters.
Sustainability - Huawei is stingy with details
Huawei does not provide any information on the Watch GT 7 Pro’s carbon footprint. The packaging contains some plastic components. Information on software updates is also missing.
Setup and Operation - only with the Huawei Health App
To set up and use the Watch GT 7 Pro, the Huawei Health app must be installed on a smartphone - it’s available for iOS and Android. A Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra was used for this test. After turning on the smartwatch, a QR code appears; once scanned, you’ll be prompted to select your smartphone brand. You’ll then be redirected to the appropriate app store to download the software.
A Huawei account is required during the setup process. During setup, you’ll need to grant various permissions for both the Health app and the smartwatch. Overall, the setup is self-explanatory, but it does take some time.
In addition, for every app opened on the smartwatch, you must separately accept the consent for data processing and a warning regarding the distinction from medical devices. To do this, each app must be opened individually; otherwise, it won’t work.
The smartwatch is operated via the touchscreen, the crown, and the button. The button assignments can be customized in the menu.
All health and fitness data is compiled in the Huawei Health app. The “Health” section serves as a dashboard. It features tiles providing an overview of individual areas. Tapping a tile opens the corresponding submenu. Under “Training,” completed workouts from various categories are listed.
“VIP” provides additional features such as nutrition analysis, sleep music, smart workout plans, and workout videos. A Huawei Health+ subscription is required for these features; the cost is eight euros for monthly payment or 60 euros for annual payment. The program can be used free of charge for three months.
Under “Devices,” you’ll find settings for the Watch GT 7 Pro, as well as access to numerous watch faces and the built-in app store. You can also save music locally on the smartwatch here. The app store offers a wide range of apps for navigation, calendars, recorders, and language-learning tools. However, apps for smart home control, popular music services, or banking apps are very rare.
For mobile payments, Huawei relies on a partnership with Curve Pay. Installation is easy via the app store in the Health app. Cards can be easily added, and synchronization with Google Wallet is also possible. In our testing, however, we occasionally encountered payment issues. While the smartwatch displays “Payment successful,” the transaction has not yet been processed by the debit card terminal.
Phone Calls and Notifications - Watch GT 7 Pro with QWERTZ Keyboard
Thanks to the integrated speaker and microphone, the Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro can be used to make phone calls - provided a paired smartphone is within Bluetooth range. Incoming calls were reliably displayed during testing. In addition, the smartwatch has access to all contacts, displays a call log, and features a number pad for manual entry.
The call quality is impressive. The speaker is loud enough to reliably transmit the other person’s voice. In our test, the wearer’s voice came through without static or echo; the sound quality is similar to using a smartphone’s speaker.
The Huawei Watch GT 7 can display emojis in chats, but images are not supported. Emails were displayed in full during our test.
The reply options are well implemented. The Watch GT 7 Pro allows you to reply using emojis or keyboard input. With a little practice, you can type replies on the QWERTY keyboard with almost no errors - the software helps with relevant suggestions. However, voice input or swiping across the keyboard - as is the case with Samsung, for example - is not possible.
Voice Assistant - Huawei continues to rely on Celia
Huawei continues to rely on its own voice assistant, Celia. It is accessed via the Huawei Today screen. However, its range of functions is very limited and has not evolved in recent years. At least Celia now works even when no Huawei smartphone is connected.
The system can answer simple questions about the weather or set a timer. The assistant cannot handle requests that require an internet search - such as opening hours. It also cannot perform navigation tasks. Alternative assistants are not available in the App Store.
Health and Fitness - Watch GT 7 Pro provides health insights
Huawei offers the “Health Insights” feature in the health app and on the smartwatch. The software displays a value for “Physical Fitness,” for example. The value can range from 1 to 100. Additionally, the numerical value is accompanied by a color-coded scale. This information is intended to help the wearer assess how intensely they can exercise that day.
However, the software also provides weekly averages for various metrics, such as workout duration or sleep heart rate. The app highlights changes and identifies trends.
The Watch GT 7 can also measure body temperature, vein stiffness, and emotional well-being.
Activity Goals - Watch GT 7 Pro offers mini-workouts
The health app and smartwatch use the familiar rings to provide information about daily activity. The rings represent calories burned through movement, minutes of exercise, and time spent standing. The number of steps taken is also displayed.
In the submenus, the software also provides information on the distance traveled, displays activity times using a visualized daily timeline, and compares the values with those from previous periods.
The data can also be displayed for weeks, months, or years. The software breaks down physical activity into individual sports and activities.
If desired, the smartwatch reminds you to get up from your desk regularly and suggests appropriate mini-workouts.
Heart Rate, Heart Rhythm, and Blood Oxygen Saturation
The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro can measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The smartwatch is also said to be capable of recording ECGs and detecting cardiac arrhythmias through pulse wave analysis. We’ve written a separate article here about the health monitoring capabilities of smartwatches.
To better evaluate the Watch GT 7 Pro’s readings, we compare them with those from reference devices. For heart rate measurement, we use a Polar H10 chest strap as the reference device. For resting heart rate, there is a deviation of 1.72 percent, or one beat per minute.
We measure the exercise heart rate at three different times. The average of the three measurements shows a deviation of 0.37 percent. The highest deviation in a single measurement is six beats per minute.
A Braun Pulse Oximeter 1 is used to measure blood oxygen saturation. The average deviation across three measurements is 1.04 percent. The highest deviation in a single measurement is three percentage points. The devices display the same values for two measurements.
The Watch GT 7 Pro does not offer blood pressure measurement.
Sleep Tracking - Huawei provides trends and analyses
The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro’s sleep tracking is comprehensive. The smartwatch provides information on total sleep duration and breaks it down into deep, light, and REM sleep. Times and percentages are provided for each phase. A reference guide helps with interpretation. There are also the categories Low, Normal, and High, each with a corresponding color code.
In addition, total sleep is rated with stars and a point score. The software highlights changes in sleep patterns and identifies trends. Additional information is provided on deep sleep continuity, sleep stability, respiratory quality, heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate. Sleep sounds are also analyzed using a paired smartphone.
The data can be displayed for days, weeks, months, and years. Personal notes can be added as a sleep log.
Workout Recording - Watch GT 7 Pro as a cycling computer
Huawei is promoting the Watch GT 7 Pro as a fitness companion. In addition to the usual features, the Watch GT 7 Pro is designed to excel particularly in skiing, golf, and cycling. The smartwatch provides access to maps of 3000 ski resorts worldwide, including run and lift numbers, names, and colors. It is also said to measure G-forces and compare descent times with those of friends and previous runs. Due to the season, we weren’t able to test the skiing features.
However, we did test the new cycling mode. You can save different bikes on the smartwatch. This selection is important for virtual performance tracking. You can also import routes from the Health app and complete them as workouts. The Watch GT 7 Pro then displays not only workout data but also the route, including the direction of travel and remaining distance. At high speeds, the software warns of approaching tight turns.
During the workout, the software provides an analysis of the climbs and shows how many meters of elevation remain to be conquered. Overall, the presentation of the workout and navigation data is very good, and the display is extremely easy to read.
The tile view can be customized for different sports. You can also set a goal for each workout. Depending on the sport, the smartwatch suggests a warm-up routine and, after the workout is complete, appropriate stretching exercises—each with visual guidance on the smartwatch display and voice prompts.
In addition, the Watch GT 7 Pro displays the current training load and suggests appropriate rest periods. The Running Ability Index is designed to provide an assessment of running performance. The smartwatch also provides a general training index that includes trends, VO₂max, estimated times for running distances based on your current fitness level, and lactate threshold values.
GPS and Navigation - Watch GT 7 Pro with offline maps
The Huawei Watch GT 7 Pro supports all common satellite systems. Completed routes are accurately mapped by the smartwatch. Training routes can be exported as GPX, TCX, and KML files. It is also possible to import routes. Petal Maps comes pre-installed on the smartwatch. If the app is also installed on the paired smartphone, navigation using the smartwatch is possible.
In addition, the Watch GT 7 Pro offers offline navigation if the corresponding maps have been downloaded in advance via the Health app. This allows for both return route navigation and navigation along the shortest route during training - without needing a smartphone connection.
Display - Watch GT 7 Pro with over 3,000 nits
Huawei has equipped the Watch GT 7 Pro with a 1.47-inch round AMOLED display. The panel impresses with a maximum brightness of 3109 cd/m² when the ambient light sensor is activated. Without the sensor, we measured 579 nits. The minimum brightness is 6.34 cd/m². This puts the Huawei smartwatch on par with the new Samsung models.
In everyday use and during workouts, the display is always very easy to read. The sapphire glass on the Pro version is also resistant to fingerprints. The Watch GT 7 Pro offers a customizable always-on display. The display turns off automatically when bedtime mode is activated.
During our tests, we observed screen flicker with a frequency of 60 Hz.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
| Screen flickering / PWM detected | 60 Hz | ||
The display backlight flickers at 60 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 60 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 7665 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||
Performance and Battery Life - fast processing speed on the Watch GT 7 Pro
Huawei does not provide any information about the built-in SiP. At least we know that it has 64 GB of storage. This makes sense, as maps and music can be stored offline. The Watch GT 7 Pro operates at a fast pace. Apps open quickly, and transitions between tiles and scrolling through menus are smooth.
Battery Life - Watch GT 7 Pro lasts a week
Huawei claims up to 21 days of battery life with light use and 12 days with typical use. In our test, we enabled all measurements, the always-on display, and workout detection. This allowed us to achieve a battery life of 10 days, despite particularly intensive use at the beginning of the test and during setup.
If the built-in navigation is used during workouts, the battery life depletes much faster. When a workout is started, the smartwatch informs you how many hours of training are still possible with the current battery level - a clever feature. The Watch GT 7 Pro should also last a week even with multiple workouts.
Charging is wireless via Qi; a compatible charging puck with a USB-A port is included, but a power adapter is not. In our test, we used an Anker 335 power adapter. After 30 minutes, the Watch GT 7 Pro went from 10 to 56 percent charge. A full charge of the 876 mAh battery takes about 90 minutes.
