Verdict
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro impresses with its sleek design, precise measurements and comprehensive health monitoring. Compared with the GT 6, it adds ECG and arterial stiffness tracking, now including atrial fibrillation detection. Accident detection has also been thoroughly updated, though it still requires a paired smartphone in an emergency since the watch lacks its own cellular connection.
Huawei has also made improvements to the training options. The GT 6 Pro introduces a simulated power meter for cycling, a fully revamped ski mode, upgraded trail-running functions, and a returning free-diving option. The display is impressively bright.
Unfortunately, Huawei still doesn’t provide a convenient mobile payment feature, and the minimum display brightness remains higher than ideal.
Pros
Cons
Price and availability
The Watch GT 6 Pro can be purchased directly from the Huawei Store (Germany) at a price of €379 (around $445). At launch, buyers can use the €30 discount code AHWGT62530 and receive a free replacement strap worth €49, or get a €50 discount with the code ANBCHECKGT6 when purchasing either the HUAWEI FreeBuds SE 3 or the HUAWEI SoundJoy 2.
Translator’s note: Huawei devices are still not officially available in North America.
Table of Contents
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro succeeds last year’s Watch GT 5 Pro and is offered only in the larger 46 mm size. Compared with the more affordable Watch GT 6, it features upgraded materials, a broader range of sports functions, and a full ECG capability.
The Watch GT 6 Pro is available in three versions:
| Model | Color variant | Price (RRP) |
|---|---|---|
| 46 mm (B29F) | Black titanium case with black fluoroelastomer strap | 379 Euro |
| 46 mm (B29W) | Titanium case with brown nylon strap | 379 Euro |
| 46 mm (B29M) | Titanium case with titanium bracelet | 499 Euro |
Design and features - Titanium Once Again
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro has a titanium case with sapphire glass on the front and a black ceramic back. Build quality is excellent and the materials feel premium. The bezel is fixed and contains no sensors.
The smartwatch is available in three versions, each using a 22 mm quick-release strap that can be swapped without tools. It is water-resistant to 5 ATM and carries IP68 and IP69 certifications, making it both dustproof and waterproof, and able to withstand high-pressure and steam-jet cleaning. Unlike the less expensive GT 6, the Pro is also rated for free diving to depths of up to 40 meters.
Sustainability
Huawei provides no detailed information on sustainability, and the smartwatch is not designed for user repair.
The outer packaging is shrink-wrapped but otherwise mostly plastic-free. Only the display and the back of the watch are covered with protective film.
Setup and operation - iOS supported with limitations
The Watch GT 6 Pro runs Huawei's HarmonyOS 6.0 and connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth 6.0; there is no official Wi-Fi support.
Before setup, the Huawei Health app must be installed. This can be used not only to manage the devices, but also to view all health data. Due to the US trade embargo, the app is not available in the Google Play Store but can be downloaded directly from Huawei using the QR code on the packaging or from alternative app stores such as the AppGallery (Huawei), the Galaxy Store (Samsung) or the App Mall (Xiaomi). For iPhones, the app is available in the Apple App Store. After installation, the watch is usually detected automatically, or you can scan the QR code shown on the watch display.
However, iPhone users will face some limitations, similar to the Watch GT 5 Pro. For example, notifications can only be customized to a limited extent and it is not possible to reply to messages directly from the watch. Because iOS lacks the AppGallery, Petal Maps cannot be installed,, so navigation on the GT 6 Pro isn’t possible.
Android phones don’t have these restrictions, but the AppGallery’s app selection is still small, limiting extra functionality.
The built-in NFC chip supports contactless payments, but not Apple Pay or Google Pay. Instead, Huawei uses Quicko, a prepaid service that requires topping up credit and charges additional fees, which makes it less appealing.
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro is primarily controlled through a responsive capacitive touchscreen. A side crown can be turned or pressed to navigate the system, while the lower button offers direct access to the training menu by default. This button can be reassigned and supports both single and double presses. The ECG contact surface is also located in this area.
Phone functions and notifications
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro includes a speaker and microphone, allowing for hands-free calls. Because it lacks Wi-Fi support, the paired smartphone must remain within Bluetooth range. For added privacy, Bluetooth headphones can also be connected directly to the watch.
Notifications arrive reliably on both Android and iOS. On iPhones they can only be viewed, while Android users can also send quick replies, use emojis, and even enter text with the on-screen keyboard. Photos and videos, however, still aren’t displayed.
The Watch GT 6 Pro does not support a voice assistant.
Health and fitness - Improvements all around
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro includes all the features of the GT 6 series, plus several enhancements. It can automatically—or manually, if preferred—track a wide range of metrics, including heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂), stress level, and skin temperature. It also supports ECG recordings and arterial stiffness measurements. Huawei’s TruSleep provides detailed sleep analysis, monitoring breathing rate and even capturing snoring sounds and ambient noise during the night.
For selected sports such as outdoor running, the watch also determines the VO2Max. A new emotional health feature expands on the previous stress detection by identifying twelve distinct emotional states. This is complemented by Health Insights, first introduced with the Watch GT 5, which compares sleep, fitness, heart health, and emotional data to offer actionable recommendations.
Another new feature is the medically certified app for analyzing pulse wave arrhythmias, which can detect a possible risk of atrial fibrillation. However, it was not yet available at the time of our test.
As usual, further analyses and personalized training plans are only available with the paid Health+ subscription. Data syncing with Google Fit is somewhat limited but works more reliably with Apple Health, and connections to Strava and Komoot are supported.
Activity goals
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro covers over 100 sports and records different performance data depending on the activities. Some activities such as running, walking, cycling, cross-training or rowing are even recognized automatically.
For daily activity tracking, Huawei uses two models. The first is the familiar three-ring system that displays calorie burn, exercise time, and workout sessions. The second is the “health cloverleaf,” which separately evaluates factors like sleep, steps, and mood.
In addition, the Huawei Health app provides detailed trend analyses - for example on the number of steps, active calories, resting heart rate or sleep duration.
Heart rate, heart rhythm, and blood oxygen saturation
Huawei refers to the built-in sensor simply as the new TruSense sensor but provides no technical details. It is claimed to deliver especially accurate readings for heart rate and blood oxygen, both of which can be measured manually or tracked continuously.
To check the heart rate, we compared the Watch GT 6 Pro with the Polar H10 chest strap. Deviations were minimal: peak values matched exactly, and the smartwatch averaged only three beats per minute lower. Resting heart rate readings were identical.
The Braun Pulse Oximeter 1 served as the reference device for measuring oxygen saturation in the blood. Here too, the values of the Watch GT 6 Pro were between one and three percentage points lower - a value that is still within the acceptable range.
For a deeper look at measurement accuracy, see our separate article on this topic (in German).
Sleep tracking
There are no major changes in sleep tracking on the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro, which largely mirrors the GT 6 series series. The watch continues to track deep sleep, light sleep, REM stages, and wake times, while also measuring respiratory rate, blood oxygen, and heart rate variability (HRV). When paired with a smartphone, it can additionally record snoring, sleep conversations, and ambient sounds.
The analysis provides detailed results along with tips for improving sleep quality. Relaxing soundscapes are available to help with falling asleep, and a Health+ subscription unlocks even more features.
The data from the previous night can be viewed directly on the watch, while statistics over days, weeks, months or years can be called up in the app. The results appear consistent overall. There is no intelligent alarm clock, but you can set your own individual alarms on the watch.
Training tracking
The Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro offers the same functions and options as the more affordable Watch GT 6, so many details overlap with that model’s review. It can track over 100 different sports, and the Pro adds an enhanced ski mode plus a virtual power meter for cycling. This feature estimates power output using speed, altitude, incline, body weight, and bike type. Golf mode is also back, now featuring more than 17,000 course maps that can be zoomed in or out with simple drag-and-scroll gestures. Free diving to depths of up to 40 meters is supported as well.
A new extended trail-running mode, similar to the GT 6, allows route import and export and can guide the wearer back to the starting point. The Pro version adds altitude tracking and can estimate arrival times at intermediate waypoints along the route.
The improved pause detection during workouts is also included in the GT 6 Pro.
GNSS and navigation
Display - AMOLED with high brightness
Like the GT 6 the GT 6 Pro also benefits from a greatly improved brightness of the display, which is now said to reach up to 3,000 cd/m² and once again exceeds this value in the test.
The flickering detected with the oscilloscope is low with a frequency of 60 Hz, but as the viewing times of the display are rather short, this should not be a problem.

The display backlight flickers at 60 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 60 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 8156 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||
Performance and runtime - Watch GT 6 Pro lasts significantly longer
Huawei does not disclose details about the installed SiP or the memory capacity. However, the Watch GT 6 Pro works smoothly and without stutters in everyday use.
Battery life
The Watch GT 6 Pro’s battery has increased significantly to 867 mAh (up from 524 mAh on the GT 5 Pro). Huawei claims up to 21 days of battery life in power-saving mode and around 12 days with typical use. The company also cites up to 40 hours of activity tracking or roughly 800 km of cycling on a single charge.
In everyday use with all health functions switched on and the always-on display deactivated, the GT 6 Pro lasted just under two weeks. It is charged wirelessly on the charging pad supplied.
