Verdict on the Huawei Watch 6 Pro
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro Space Edition impresses with its premium materials, impeccable build quality, and extensive feature set. Its exceptionally bright AMOLED display, accurate heart rate monitoring, and long battery life are particular highlights. The interface is also responsive, gesture controls work reliably, and the dual-band GNSS delivers good results overall. However, distracting display reflections and significant discrepancies in altitude measurements are drawbacks.
The biggest weakness, however, remains the limited app selection on HarmonyOS 7. The absence of apps such as WhatsApp is particularly noticeable when using the watch independently via LTE. Voice control functionality is also limited.
For anyone looking for a premium smartwatch with comprehensive health features, reliable workout tracking, and excellent battery life, the Watch 6 Pro Space Edition offers a compelling overall package.

Last year, Huawei introduced the Watch 5, a compelling premium smartwatch that stood out in our review for its accurate health sensors, bright AMOLED display, and good battery life. Huawei now follows up with the Watch 6 Pro, promising an improved X-Tap sensor, an even brighter display, and additional outdoor features, among other upgrades.
Our review unit is the particularly premium Space Edition, featuring a titanium case, ceramic bezel, and titanium bracelet. But do the improvements justify the high price, or is the previous model the better buy?
Case and features - The Watch 6 Pro supports freediving to depths of 40 meters
The 46.4 mm case is made of a titanium alloy, while the black bezel is made of Nano-Tech ceramic. Gold-colored accents with a coated finish give the smartwatch a distinctive appearance. The link bracelet is also made of titanium, while the case back is made of ceramic. The display is protected by sapphire glass.
Weighing around 60 grams without the bracelet, the Watch 6 Pro Space Edition is no lightweight. Its large case and striking design are likely to look best on larger wrists. The 22 mm-wide bracelet is easy to replace thanks to its quick-release mechanism. Huawei also includes a black fluoroelastomer strap with the Space Edition, which is particularly suitable for sports activities.
The smartwatch has 5 ATM and IP69 water resistance ratings and, according to Huawei, is also suitable for freediving to depths of up to 40 meters. However, it is not intended for scuba diving.
The Watch 6 Pro also leaves little to be desired in terms of features. In addition to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, it has an eSIM for making calls independently of a smartphone. Its integrated dual-band GNSS allows workouts to be recorded without a connected smartphone. NFC enables contactless payments via Curve Pay, although a corresponding account must be set up.
Huawei once again places particular emphasis on health monitoring. The revised X-Tap sensor on the side of the case combines optical measurements with ECG functionality and a pressure-sensitive sensor. According to Huawei, the watch can record up to eleven health metrics within 60 seconds. Numerous sports modes and a dedicated outdoor expedition app with offline maps and route guidance round out the feature set.
Sustainability
Huawei primarily uses paper and cardboard for its packaging, with hardly any visible plastic components. However, the outer packaging is shrink-wrapped in plastic film, meaning the manufacturer has not eliminated plastic entirely.
Huawei provides no specific information on the Watch 6 Pro's carbon footprint, the proportion of recycled materials used, or its repairability. Details on long-term software support are also lacking. The battery is not designed to be replaced by the user.
Setup and operation
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro Space Edition is compatible with both Android smartphones and iPhones. Setup requires the Huawei Health app, which can be downloaded directly from the App Store on iOS. On Android, the app is not available in the Google Play Store but can be downloaded from Huawei's AppGallery or app stores operated by other manufacturers, such as Samsung and Xiaomi. A Huawei ID is also required to pair the watch. The app then guides users through the setup process and the necessary permission settings.
The watch runs HarmonyOS 7. The interface is clearly organized and largely intuitive to use. In addition to the touchscreen, the watch features a rotating, clickable crown and another button on the right side of the case. The crown can be used to scroll through menus and select apps. Pressing it opens the app overview or returns to the watch face. The lower button supports both single and double presses. A single press opens a quick-access menu with three customizable functions, while a double press launches a preset action, such as Curve Pay.
Swipe gestures provide quick access to widgets, settings, and other features. The app overview can be displayed in a grid layout, with the crown also allowing users to zoom in and out. Various watch faces let users customize the smartwatch's appearance, with additional designs available through Huawei Health.
One notable feature is gesture control, which worked reliably in our testing. A double pinch or a double swiping motion with the fingers can trigger selected functions without touching the display. The new wrist-rotation gesture can be used to silence alarms or exit menus, for example.
Calls and notifications
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro has a speaker and microphone, allowing users to make calls directly from the smartwatch. Unlike the Watch GT 7, for example, it can also be used independently of the paired smartphone thanks to its integrated eSIM. Alternatively, calls can be made via Bluetooth. Call quality was decent in our testing, and Bluetooth headphones can also be paired directly with the watch for greater privacy.
The smartwatch provides access to contacts and call logs, as well as a keypad for manual dialing. Incoming calls can be answered or rejected directly from the wrist.
Notifications are forwarded to the watch on both Android and iOS. Emojis can be displayed, but images and videos cannot. Emails are displayed in full. On Android, users can reply to messages using emojis, preset quick replies, or the on-screen keyboard. Voice input is not available. Functionality is more limited on iOS: messages can only be read, not answered directly from the watch.
The limited app selection on HarmonyOS is particularly noticeable when using the watch independently via LTE. For example, WhatsApp cannot be installed directly on the smartwatch, so its messages are only forwarded through the paired smartphone. Without a connection to the smartphone, WhatsApp communication is therefore not possible. This reduces the practical usefulness of the eSIM, as the Watch 6 Pro still depends on the smartphone for many communication services beyond conventional phone calls.
Voice assistant
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro supports Huawei's Celia voice assistant, but only when paired with a compatible Huawei smartphone. The feature is unavailable on Android smartphones from other manufacturers or on iPhones. Alternative voice assistants such as Google Gemini and Siri cannot be used on the watch either.
Health and fitness - Extensive features with Huawei Health
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro offers a wide range of health and fitness features. In addition to continuously monitoring heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and stress levels, the smartwatch also tracks sleep and records numerous types of workouts. Other features include ECG functionality, skin temperature measurement, and Health Glance, a health overview feature that is said to measure up to eleven health metrics in around 60 seconds. The revised X-Tap sensor on the side of the case plays a central role in this.
All recorded data is consolidated in the Huawei Health app, where measurements, long-term trends, and workouts are presented in a clear, organized manner. The app also offers personalized activity goals and various assessments of physical condition. No paid subscription is required to use the basic health features.
Activity goals
Huawei offers two approaches to staying motivated in everyday life. The classic activity rings visualize progress toward goals for calories burned, exercise minutes, and regular standing. Each goal can be adjusted individually, and users can also set a daily step goal.
Alternatively, users can choose the health clovers. The three circles representing standing, exercise, and relaxation are designed to encourage a balanced daily routine, promoting conscious recovery alongside physical activity. Reminders and progress indicators help users keep track of their personal goals.
Huawei also offers a Readiness Score, which is designed to assess the user's current physical and mental condition based on various health metrics. This provides additional guidance on whether to prioritize physical activity or recovery. However, the score should be viewed as a general indicator rather than a medical assessment.
Heart rate, heart rhythm and blood oxygen saturation
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro continuously monitors heart rate and can alert users to irregularities in heart rhythm. An electrocardiogram (ECG) can also be recorded using the X-Tap sensor on the side of the case.
To assess the accuracy of optical heart rate monitoring, we compared the Watch 6 Pro with a Polar H10 chest strap. At rest, both devices recorded exactly 60 beats per minute. The smartwatch also delivered good results during a bike ride: across three comparison measurements, the mean absolute percentage deviation was just 2.3%.
However, a comparison of the recorded heart rate curves reveals differences in how quickly the devices respond to changes. The Watch 6 Pro tracks the overall pattern of exertion well but responds somewhat more slowly to rapid changes in heart rate than the chest strap. Brief peaks in exertion and sudden drops, in particular, are sometimes displayed with a delay or appear less pronounced. Nevertheless, the optical sensor delivers convincing performance overall.
The Watch 6 Pro can also monitor blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂). In our comparison measurements with a Braun Pulse Oximeter 1, the smartwatch consistently displayed readings one to two percentage points higher. The results are therefore relatively close. We explain what to keep in mind when interpreting such measurements in a separate article.
Sleep tracking
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro automatically tracks sleep, distinguishing between light, deep, and REM sleep, as well as periods of wakefulness. In addition to sleep duration, it records metrics such as nighttime heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate. Its features also include monitoring breathing for potential irregularities during sleep.
The results are clearly presented in the Huawei Health app. A sleep score assesses overnight recovery, while charts illustrate the progression of individual sleep stages. The app also provides insights into sleep quality and recommendations for improving sleep habits. Longer-term trends can also be tracked.
The analysis is comprehensive and provides useful guidance on personal sleep habits. As with other smartwatches, however, sleep stage classifications are estimates based on sensor data. The Watch 6 Pro cannot replace a medical sleep study.
Workout tracking
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro supports more than 100 workout modes, including running, cycling, swimming, and various indoor sports. Depending on the activity, the smartwatch records metrics such as heart rate, workout duration, calories burned, speed, and distance covered. For outdoor activities, the integrated GNSS tracks the route even without a connected smartphone.
Detailed workout analyses are available in Huawei Health after each session. In addition to heart rate curves, these include metrics such as training load and estimated recovery time. Training plans and running analyses also help users plan future workouts. The app provides extensive data analysis that should appeal to both casual exercisers and more serious athletes.
GNSS and navigation
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro supports dual-band GNSS and can record routes independently of a smartphone. For our real-world test, we compared the smartwatch with the Garmin Venu 2 during a bike ride of around 9.3 kilometers.
The results are convincing overall. While the Garmin recorded a distance of 9.33 kilometers, the Huawei Watch 6 Pro measured 9.38 kilometers. The difference is just 50 meters, or around 0.5%. The recorded routes also match closely over much of the ride.
A closer look reveals some minor inaccuracies, however. On the paths around the lake, the two recorded routes mostly remain close together. At some intersections and around bends, the Huawei watch deviates slightly more from the actual route. Minor offsets and occasional outliers are also visible between buildings. Overall, however, route tracking remains good.
More significant differences emerge in the recorded elevation gain. While the Garmin Venu 2 recorded a total ascent of 36 meters, the Huawei Watch 6 Pro reported 81 meters. Comparing both routes with Google Earth's terrain profile reveals nearly identical elevation profiles, but also numerous minor fluctuations in elevation. Since Google Earth calculates elevations using its own terrain data, this comparison does not reliably establish which watch measures the actual total ascent more accurately.
For navigation, Huawei offers offline maps and the ability to transfer routes to the watch. The Watch 6 Pro also features a dedicated outdoor expedition mode designed to make navigation easier on longer hikes, among other activities. This makes the smartwatch suitable not only for recording workouts but also for navigating without a smartphone.
Display - Extremely bright, but with distracting reflections
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro Space Edition features a 1.5-inch LTPO AMOLED display protected by sapphire glass. The display impresses with vibrant colors, deep blacks, and excellent sharpness.
Huawei sets new standards for brightness. With the ambient light sensor enabled, we measured a maximum luminance of 3,637 cd/m², exceeding even the manufacturer's claimed 3,500 cd/m². With automatic brightness adjustment disabled, however, the maximum brightness is limited to 577 cd/m². The minimum brightness is 5.85 cd/m², which can feel quite bright in completely dark rooms.
Outdoors, the display remains highly legible even in direct sunlight thanks to its exceptionally high brightness. However, reflections on the relatively thick cover glass can be distracting. These reflections slightly detract from the otherwise excellent impression, particularly at unfavorable viewing angles.
Thanks to LTPO technology, the refresh rate can adjust dynamically to conserve power. An always-on display is also available, allowing the time and other information to remain visible at all times.

The display backlight flickers at 60 Hz (worst case, e.g., utilizing PWM) . The frequency of 60 Hz is very low, so the flickering may cause eyestrain and headaches after extended use. In comparison: 52 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 7579 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 343500) Hz was measured. | |||
Performance and battery life - Built to last
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro is powered by the Kirin W80. Since suitable benchmark apps cannot be installed on the smartwatch, we cannot assess the chip's performance using synthetic benchmarks.
In everyday use, however, the Watch 6 Pro delivers convincing performance. HarmonyOS 7 runs consistently smoothly, menus can be scrolled through without noticeable delays, and apps launch quickly. There is also no significant stuttering when switching between different functions.
Battery life
The Huawei Watch 6 Pro Space Edition delivers good battery life in our testing. With the always-on display (AoD) disabled, the smartwatch lasts around six days under our usage conditions. As expected, enabling the always-on display reduces battery life, although it remains strong. In our test, the battery level dropped from 100% to 8% over four days and 17 hours.
The first low-battery warning appears at 20% remaining charge. At 15%, the watch recommends switching to power-saving mode. We did not activate this mode during our test, so the recorded battery life reflects use without additional power-saving measures.
Charging performance is another positive aspect. With the included magnetic charging pad, the watch charges from 8% to 100% in just 62 minutes. However, a power adapter is not included, so actual charging speeds may vary depending on the USB power adapter used.
