Tecno Phantom V Yoga leaks as possible brand-first foldable clamshell smartphone
Tecno unveiled plans to progress to rollable smartphones following the release of its inaugural Phantom V Fold at MWC 2023. In the meantime, however, there may be more foldables in the emerging brand's future, a first-gen take on the increasingly popular clamshell form-factor included.
It is apparently already production-ready, given that it is allegedly circulating as a working unit in a new in-the-wild leak. The tip depicts a device that looks a lot like the Vivo X Flip - except that the generous round camera hump may also integrate a secondary display in this case.
If so, it may also be somewhat like the Huawei P50 Pocket, except the innovative feature may be a lot larger in this instance. With further specs such as HIOS based on Android 13, "64MP dual cameras" and 8GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage, the "Phantom V Yoga" may give the impression of a Galaxy Z Flip4-killer - were it not for one potentially significant detail.
Its inaugural tip also suggests that its FHD+ main display may be driven by the Dimensity 8050 - one of MediaTek's latest SoC refreshes. Accordingly, the "V Yoga" could undercut the Z Flip series all right - but only because it targets the mid-tier rather than a more premium echelon.
Nevertheless, the Android foldable clamshell smartphone market could do with such a breath of affordable fresh air - hopefully, Tecno's effort to bring the technology to the mainstream by leaving flagship processing out of the equation will go better this time around.
