TCL manufactures and sells phones and tablets under its own brand, but before then, it sold phones under a few brands it owned or was a licensee for such as BlackBerry, Palm, and Alcatel. While its licensing agreement with BlackBerry ended back in 2020, it still owns the Palm brand and seems to have renewed its Alcatel mobile license (expired at the end of 2024) despite not announcing new models in years. Now, it has been revealed it plans to announce new Alcatel smartphones that will be manufactured and sold in India.
The upcoming Alcatel phones will be manufactured in India as part of the Make in India
initiative, and according to a statement from Anshi Rathi, the chief operating officer at Alcatel, the decision to manufacture the phones in India is a way to contribute to India's growing technology ecosystem
.
While there are no technical specifications yet, it has been reported that there will be a model with a stylus. The new Alcatel smartphones will also have a design influenced by French aesthetics and combine design, functionality, and user experience
. Another Alcatel executive, Atul Vivek, is quoted to have said that the phones will cater(ing) to tech enthusiasts, urban aspirants fashion-conscious consumers, and digital nomads alike
.
There is no info yet on when the new Alcatel smartphones will make their debut. There is also no mention of the possibility of the phones being officially announced outside of India.
