As display technologies have matured over the years, TVs that were once prohibitively expensive for the masses have now become accessible. For instance, customers no longer need to shell out thousands of dollars for a capable OLED TV. Similarly, huge TVs with diagonals north of 80 inches have also seen a sharp price drop, making it possible for an average consumer to put together a cost-effective home cinema setup.
The TCL Q6 with a 98-inch screen diagonal is one such example of an extremely large TV that can be yours for a reasonable price. Sam’s Club is now selling the 98-inch TCL Q6 for only $1,348. This is a discount of $650 on the $1,998 normal retail price. Granted, you have to shell out $50/year for a Sam’s Club membership to access the deal. But, even with this $50 factored into the final price of the TV, we are still looking at a $100 discount compared to Amazon’s current pricing of the 98-inch TCL Q65.
Looking at the specifications of the TCL 98Q671G on sale, the TV packs a 4K VA panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, QLED backlighting, and support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology. The TV supports both Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync. Image processing and 4K upscaling are handled by TCL’s AIPQ processor.
Software-wise, the TCL Q6 runs the Google TV OS. So, there is wide app availability alongside support for things like Apple AirPlay 2 and Amazon Alexa.
When it comes to the picture quality, you shouldn’t expect a high-end experience. What you should expect, however, is decent mid-range visuals. Taking Rtings’ review of a sister model, the TCL Q65, into consideration, the TCL Q67 will deliver a high SDR brightness, a wide DCI-P3 gamut, decent reflection handling, and good color volume. The TV will also feature low input lag, which, when combined with a 120 Hz refresh rate and full PS5/Xbox Series compatibility, should make it a good gaming display.
So, despite the many compromises, the 98-inch TCL Q6 on sale is a solid option. Coupled with a stellar 5.1ch soundbar like the Samsung Q800D, customers can build an enjoyable home theatre with the TCL Q6 98-inch TV in the center.
