TCL appears to be rolling out Filmmaker Mode to a range of its MiniLED LCD TVs. The company is one of the last to adopt the picture preset, having said in 2024 that it had no plans to add the settings to its TVs.
Filmmaker Mode was a listed feature for several of TCL’s 2025 TVs, like the C9K, QM6K and QM7K for North America and the T7L for China. Recently, the company officially confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that the setting was included with the QM6K, QM7K, QM8K and X11K TVs (curr. from $5,999.99 at Amazon) for the US and Canada, as well as the C6K, C7K, C8K, C9K and X11K for Europe. According to TCL, the current version of the feature supports SDR and HDR10 content, with support for Dolby Vision expected to arrive in an update later in 2025. The TVs will automatically switch to the setting in compatible apps, like Amazon Prime Video.
Filmmaker Mode launched in 2019, billed as a way to “watch your movies and TV shows the way the filmmakers intended”. It is supposed to disable picture processing tools like motion smoothing and ensures that aspect ratios, colors and frame rates are preserved. TCL notes that Filmmaker Mode is designed for watching movies in darkened rooms, suggesting that customers stick with Film Mode in brighter spaces.
Early users of the QM751G and QM851G TVs have confirmed that Filmmaker Mode is there. Interestingly, though there has been no official confirmation, some users have also noticed it after recent updates for the C755 and the C855 models that were launched in 2024. It remains to be seen whether TCL will push Filmmaker Mode to more of its 2024 TV models.
