Shelly releases new BLU Distance sensor with smart home applications

Shelly has released the BLU Distance sensor in the US. This smart home gadget was on show at IFA 2025 in September, and has also been listed on the brand’s website since mid-October.

You can now buy the Shelly BLU Distance sensor for $31.49 in the US at the brand’s online store. The company notes that orders are shipping from the US, with customers who spend over $50 offered free shipping.

The Shelly BLU Distance is a Bluetooth ultrasonic sensor, designed to enable users to measure the distance between two surfaces, including liquids. Suggested applications include checking if a car is parked in its usual space, on a driveway or in a garage or monitoring the remaining water level in a tank. It could also be used by businesses to check on stock levels. The sensor supports distances between 0.25 and 5 m (~0.8 to 16.4 ft) and is said to offer mm-level accuracy below 2 m (~6.6 ft). There are seven types of measurement ranges, and measurement intervals can be adjusted between five and 300 seconds. 

Plus, the company has built-in compensation for changes in temperature to maintain precision in conditions between -20 and 40 °C (-5 and 105 °F). The Shelly BLU Distance sensor currently supports Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0, and will gain Zigbee support in an upcoming firmware update. The device is powered by an ER14505 battery, measuring 117.9 x 35.3 (~4.6 x 1.4 inches) with its casing. The Shelly BLU Distance sensor is expected to be released in Europe in the near future, where it will retail for €29.63.
