Sharp has launched eight Aquos QD-OLED and five Aquos XLED 4K HDTVs in Japan with a wide slate of features, including unique ones not found in other TVs.
The HDTVs feature advanced capabilities, including AI video and sound processing, Dolby Vision and Vision IQ support, immersive Dolby Atmos surround sound, streaming media services, low-latency gaming mode, and broadcast recording.
Unique among HDTVs in Japan, the 'Eye Log' app uses the Landolt C (also called Landolt broken ring) vision test to check the eyes of TV owners. The test results can be logged for multiple users to track vision changes over time.
The HDTVs also feature ESET Smart TV Security software to protect the Sleipnir TV web browser and operating system from malware and viruses.
The OLED TVs use quantum dots to increase maximum brightness by two times over the company's conventional models, while the XLED TVs use quantum dots and high-efficiency miniLEDs to increase maximum brightness by 1.5 times over conventional models. The latter also use nanocapsule materials to reduce screen glare and reflection while increasing viewing angles.
Readers outside Japan will have to settle for lesser models like these Sharp Roku 4K HDTVs sold on Amazon.
