A new version of the Philips Hue Bridge could be on the way. The original product (v1) was launched in 2012, and the second generation model (v2) arrived in 2016. This smart home hub officially allows users to connect up to 50 smart home devices for remote and simultaneous controls. Users have proven that you can connect up to 63 devices, though this comes at a performance cost.
According to a recent report from Hueblog.com, a third-generation Philips Hue Bridge may be in development. It has been suggested that this model could support a higher number of connected devices, though an exact number is not provided. Another possible benefit could be the ability to wirelessly connect to your home Wi-Fi; currently, you have to physically connect the Hue Bridge to your router with an ethernet cable. Unfortunately, the report does not state its source.
The Philips Hue Bridge v3 would not come as a surprise to users of the brand’s smart home devices, given the length of time since the last version was released. Plus, the company has continued to improve the current model, with major updates like the November 2024 release, which added support for simultaneous control of multiple bridges.
While the company has yet to acknowledge this new product, rumors suggest it could be launched later in 2025. The price of this potential next-generation Philips Hue Bridge is unclear; the second-generation model is currently available at Amazon for $41.89.
