Sharge Disk Plus previewed as ultra-compact external SSD with MagSafe-like portability and 4TB capacity
The inaugural Sharge Disk debuted as an intriguing hybrid of a keychain and a potentially high-speed external SSD - although it depended heavily on its discrete custom cable in order to keep it that way.
Not so with its upcoming Plus successor, however, which is magnetic instead so that it can simply be kept on the back of your iPhone, MacBook or Lenovo Legion Go (using an adhesive metal ring as necessary) at all times.
The Disk Plus is finished in "premium, minimalistic" aluminum where its predecessor was transparent, and is rated for 10 gigabit per second (Gb/s) USB 3.2 Gen 2 speeds rather than Thunderbolt via its inbuilt type-C cable.
Then again, it is also slated to launch with a 3.7 x 2.4 x 0.24-inch (~93 x 50 x 6 millimeters (mm)) credit card-like form factor. Nevertheless, it apparently has room for some thermal pads to keep its SSD running coolly enough.
On that note, Sharge asserts that the Plus model can use M.2 2242 or 2280 SSDs in addition to those of the 2230 form-factor to which the original Disk was confined.
The OEM will announce the innovative new NVMe drive housing's price as an early-bird Kickstarter reward on August 28, 2024. Meanwhile, the first-gen Disk is available for $38.99 on Amazon right now.
