Samsung releases new smartwatch with IP68 certification, large AMOLED display and up to 13 days of battery life
Samsung has finally released a successor to the Galaxy Fit2. For context, the company introduced the Galaxy Fit2 in August 2020, with a North American release following in October of the same year. Since then, Samsung has ignored its Galaxy Fit line, with the company offering up three generations of Galaxy Watch wearables instead. In saying that, Samsung submitted the Galaxy Fit3 to the FCC in September 2023 and evidently had marketing images prepared since the tail end of last year.
At any rate, the new Galaxy Fit has an overhauled design, which has allowed Samsung to install a larger battery and a bigger display, among other changes from the Galaxy Fit2. On the one hand, the latest Galaxy Fit finds itself with an AMOLED panel that measures 1.6-inches across, a 45% improvement over the Galaxy Fit2. On the other hand, the Galaxy Fit3 features a 208 mAh battery, over 30% up from 159 mAh that powers its predecessor.
Purportedly, the larger battery capacity allows the Galaxy Fit3 to last up to 13 days between charges. In part, Samsung's decision to install a proprietary OS rather than Wear OS helps maximise battery life. Additionally, the wearable includes over 100 workout modes, fall detection, Emergency SOS and integration within the Samsung Health app. Moreover, the Galaxy Fit3 is IP68 certified and 5 ATM water resistant but lacks any built-in GPS module to speak of. While Samsung has not revealed pricing information yet, it has confirmed that the Galaxy Fit3 will be available in grey, silver and pink finishes from February 23 'in select markets'.
