The Samsung Galaxy Tab A is a real alternative to an iPad, with a sharp and colourful screen and a design very close to that of £400 tablets. All in all, it's the best budget Android tablet around if you don't like the restrictive approach of the Amazon Fire HD 10.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) is one of the clearest budget alternatives to an iPad, landing well below the price of Apple’s cheapest tablet. It does the job admirably for casual gaming, video and the light messing about online many of us use tablets for. And its aluminium case is far more attractive compared to the utilitarian plastic of the Amazon Fire HD tablets.

The Galaxy Tab A (2019) 10.1 retails for Php 16,990. Its closest rival is Huawei’s MediaPad M5 Lite: while it is Php 2k more expensive, you get more RAM and internal storage, a better front camera, a fingerprint scanner, quad speakers, and a bigger battery. We will put the Galaxy Tab A (2019) 10.1 to our usual battery of tests once we get our hands on a review unit.

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) is actually quite a decent tablet for its price. Display is sharp and great, comes with adequate enough performance for day-to-day use – though should have at least 4GB RAM for multitasking. And also have proper stereo speaker instead of stereo bottom-firing speakers.

Model: Despite declining sales figures for tablets in the Android space, Samsung and only a few other manufacturers are continuing to push out products that are updated with the latest technology in this space. The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2019 is the latest addition to the list. It is a follow up model to the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2016. The Tab A 10.1 is meant to be a mid-range tablet for conventional users. For a start, it comes in a rather classy metal body. In terms of design, it is far different from the 2016 model. Like the latest generation Galaxy smartphones, there is no front facing button under the screen anymore. Sadly, there is also no fingerprint scanner on this unit. At the top is a headphone jack and at the bottom is a USB-C 2.0 port. There are a pair of stereo speakers at the both sides of the port. Samsung is advertising it as a Dolby Atmos surround sound speaker. This might a little too far but many reviewers and users are reporting that it does produce some good sound.
The bezels are reduced, giving a screen to body ratio of 81 %. This might not sound impressive for a phone but it is for a tablet in this size. The display is a 10.1-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1,200 x 1,920 pixels. Sadly, no AMOLED here although the higher Galaxy A series phones come with AMOLED screens. However, the screen looks sharp and produces good colors with high brightness. As for the hardware, it comes with an Exynos 7904 octa core processor coupled with only 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage for the device with the lowest specification. The internal storage can be expanded by adding a micro SD card. With this specs, the tablet supports some demanding apps and gaming but don’t expect too much from it. It’ll probably not do so well when gaming graphics are set to Full HD. At the back of the tablet, there is a 8 MP main camera and on the front is a 5 MP camera. Both shoot videos at full HD resolution.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 2019 is shipped with the latest Android 9.0 and comes with some bloatware. But sticking to its minimalist approach, Samsung has reduced it and made it more stable than the previous versions. The split screen feature lets you run two apps side by side like on the Apple iPad Pro. There is a massive 6,150 mAh battery inside the tablet. In many reviews, this battery gives around 9 to 10 hours of battery life with regular usage. It also comes with the latest Bluetooth 5.0. The Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2019 is a reasonable good tablet especially when its lower asking price is considered. It looks premium, has good built quality and a great display. However, its hardware might be on the lower side. Its main competitors are the slightly pricier Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10, Lenovo Tab P10 and its own Galaxy Tab S4. The tab S4 features a much better Super AMOLED screen and better hardware specs.

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.
