Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Leaker reports disappointing 200 MP camera choice for next-generation flagship and Galaxy S24 Ultra successor
The release of the Galaxy S25 series is almost a year away, with Samsung only delivering the Galaxy S24 Ultra (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon) and its smaller siblings in late January. In the meantime, it is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6, as well as the Galaxy Watch7 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Nonetheless, Ice Universe is already pontificating on alleged hardware upgrades heading to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, or lack thereof. For context, the renowned leaker has suggested that a purported redesign is not headed to the Galaxy S25 series. In short, Ice Universe states that it is too early for design changes to have been finalised.
Subsequently, the same leaker asserts that the Galaxy S25 Ultra is not in line for a primary camera upgrade. Writing on Twitter. As such, they claim that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will arrive early next year sporting the ISOCELL HP2, a 200 MP and 1/1.3-inch sensor that Samsung has been using on its 'Ultra' smartphones since the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Although this may seem strange at first, it is worth noting that Samsung has precedence for equipping multiple flagship generations with broadly the same camera sensor.
For instance, the same occurred with the ISOCELL HM1. While this debuted on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, it was refined and re-branded to the ISOCELL HM3 for the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra. Similarly, little has changed from the 50 MP primary camera that Samsung used in the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus to those found in their current-generation successors. The same is true of recent Galaxy Z Fold devices too, which may not receive a major camera upgrade this year either.
