Redmi tipped to hit back at OnePlus with faster-charging, more robust flagship update
Notorious leaker Digital Chat Station has started to drop hints that Redmi is about to launch its next top-end Android smartphone - with impeccable timing, as rival brand OnePlus has only just dropped one of its own.
The device is thought to launch as the "Extreme" or Ultra variant of the Redmi K70 series, a line that already has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered flagship with a Lamborghini-branded special edition of its own. However, the Ultra is now projected to augment the Pro's aggressively modern, flat-edged build with an IP68 rating.
By contrast, the freshly-launched Ace 3 Pro has an IP65 rating for a chassis type that, despite its new ceramic option, is also thought to go out of date by the time the next-gen OnePlus 13 shows up. Furthermore, the K70 Ultra is thought to have a flat display with a 2K resolution, whereas that of the 3 Pro is curved and 1.5K.
The K70 Ultra might also charge faster over USB-C, thereby pitting 120W HyperCharge technology against OnePlus' 100W SuperVOOC standard.
On the other hand, the Ace 3 Pro does have a (very) new 6,100mAh battery, whereas there is no word of anything more than 5,000mAh for Redmi's supposedly upcoming ultimate 2024 flagship.
Then again, the K70 Ultra is also thought to undergo a global re-brand as the successor to the Xiaomi 13T Pro that can be found on Amazon, whereas the Ace 3 Pro will probably remain confined to the Chinese market.
