HKC is unlikely to be well-known among readers and consumers, but it is a very active display manufacturer that is not afraid of innovation or attempting to set new records. That said, HKC has just teased another monitor that promises to impress with an extremely high refresh rate, namely up to 800 Hz. The gray-to-gray response time is specified as 0.5 milliseconds.
Whether an ever-increasing refresh rate actually provides any added value is questionable. To fully utilize such a high refresh rate, the game must also be able to deliver a correspondingly large number of frame rates per second (FPS). Moreover, it is also questionable whether there is a noticeable and practically relevant difference between 480 Hz and 800 Hz.
Furthermore, the sharpness of the 24.5-inch monitor is limited, so only Full HD resolution is said to be possible. AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync are supported. Another advertised feature is the mini-LED lighting, which boasts 1,152 adjustable lighting zones, which is particularly advantageous for displaying high-contrast content. Other specs include a peak brightness of 1,200 cd/m², 95% DCI-P3 color space coverage and 99% Adobe RGB color space coverage with a supposed color accuracy of Delta E less than 1.5.
Information on pricing or availability is still pending. A global and official release is unlikely.
