While 8K TVs are not seeing great demand due to their high costs, 32-inch and smaller 8K monitors might find a niche if priced correctly. BOE's 8K 120 Hz panels can also switch to 4K 240 Hz and are expected to enter mass production later this year.

Demand for 8K displays is not really a thing, not even in 2025, despite Samsung’s significant efforts to bring this technology closer to mainstream. Some of the downsides that currently hold back mass adoption for 8K screens include high production costs for large TVs over 77 inches that can actually benefit from the increased pixel density, plus the lack of standardized content filmed in 8K native. Not to mention that 8K gaming for AAA games running on ultimate settings in Unreal Engine 5 is still a distant dream without some super resolution and multi-frame gen gimmicks, which might up the frame counts to over 60 fps; however, it would still not match the now standard 120 Hz refresh rate. But these shortcomings will not stop the natural tech evolution proudly showcased at SID Display Week where BOE, the largest display panel manufacturer in the world, demoed its first 31.5-inch 8K 120 Hz LCD gaming monitor.

Arguably, 8K might not really make sense at sizes lower than 55 inches, yet BOE at least proves that it is ready to mass produce gaming monitors, with the first commercial models expected to hit the market in late 2025. If 8K feels like overkill for most PCs, the new monitors with the BOE displays can easily switch to 4K 240 Hz. Games running at 8K would show significantly less shimmering edges even on a 32-inch screen, essentially eliminating the need for anti-aliasing techniques. That said, turning anti-aliasing off would not grant a significant fps boost, making the use of super resolution upscaling still a must.

BOE did not specify what LCD technology is used for this 8K display and pricing still remains to be determined. Nevertheless, from the few videos we found on the Internet, it looks like this 8K monitor is based on a miniLED panel with a glossy finish.

The company also showed TV panels with next gen miniLED technology called UB Cell 4.0 ADS Pro that promises to match OLED panels when it comes to contrast. Another interesting new tech showed off was a 3D monitor with 16K resolution and eye-tracking employing vertical parallax for more immersive depth perception.
