CES 2024 | BOE 45-inch 8K borderless smart in-car screen goes on display
BOE has a number of reasons to be at CES 2024, one of which is to demonstrate how hard it has been working to help deliver the vehicular cockpit of the future today. The OEM has developed a touchscreen that stretches over 45 inches of dashboard in order to comprise the car's smart infotainment and instrument controls in one.
It is technically already on the market, having debuted in the Geely Galaxy E8 that has just been announced in China. BOE asserts that the "first of its kind", 8K thin (7.5mm) -bezel version of the smart dashboard improves the new car's experiential impact and will make the driver safer while keeping a passenger engaged and entertained.
As groundbreaking as it may make the Galaxy E8 look, the screen may also soon seem outmoded soon. BOE has also unveiled the next-gen 45-inch 9K Oxide Mini LED "in-vehicle one-piece screen" at its booth (#3141) in the Las Vegas Convention Center's West Hall.
The upcoming smart dashboard display's increased resolution is paired to an "ultra-high" 90Hz refresh rate, "million-level" contrast ratio and 1500-nit brightness; nevertheless, it is also backed to use 20 to 30% less power than its predecessor.
BOE has partnered with Corning to give the 9K screen a curving surface crafted using a "cold bending" process. "Cold" equates to room temperature in this context and is, thus, touted as a more sustainable, environmentally-friendly way of producing a dramatically high tech-looking in-car display.
