The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has confirmed the receipt of a complaint from Samsung about competing display OEM BOE. The former asserts that the latter has employed "unfair methods of competition" that include OLED tech intellectual property (IP) infringement. These alleged shady practices are thought to have helped BOE cut into lucrative business related to Apple's iPhones with which Samsung is normally strongly associated.

Samsung's Display division believes that a competitor in the field of OLED technology has stolen relevant intellectual property from it. The company has now brought these grievances before the ITC, on the basis that BOE Technology Group and its subsidiaries have broken US law by importing products resulting from the alleged theft into the country.

The South Korean giant's assertions are thought relevant to BOE's ability to win some of the business of equipping the iPhone 14 series with the popular display type away from it. Then again, the latter ultimately failed to renew that contract in 2023, leaving Samsung and LG to its veritable duopoly in terms of supplying Apple with mobile device screens.

Nevertheless, the ITC will now take its next moves in processing the complaint, filed by Samsung on October 31, 2023. They include the solicitation of responses to the accusation, from BOE itself as well as "other interested parties, and members of the public" and to assess the effect of the "unfair" trade practices in question on the US economy.
