The developers behind the VR game Down the Rabbit Hole have introduced the "flattened" version of the game. Unlike the original, the new port has been redesigned for traditional displays, and the good part is that the non-VR version has launched as a free game.
However, as the developers have noted in the game description, the title will be available "for free for a limited time." There are no other specifics mentioned, but the VR version generally goes for $19.99 when there's no sale in place.
As for the game itself, Down the Rabbit Hole puts players in the world of Wonderland set before Alice's arrival. The story unfolds through a series of interactive events and progresses through environmental puzzles. Each puzzle brings a unique set of challenges, and they have hidden items as well.
One of the interesting aspects of the narrative is that it's non-linear. This element lets players branch story choices and progress according to their preferences. Of course, the story does demand players to piece clues together to advance.
Visual-wise, this currently free game on Steam has a diorama-style presentation. It has a blend of hand-crafted environments and storybook aesthetics. The game's art direction matches well with classic Wonderland tales, featuring vibrant colors, playful animations, and quirky character designs.
Other than that, Down the Rabbit Hole has relatively relaxed system requirements, and it should run well on most decently specced gaming handhelds and PCs (Beelink Ser8 curr. $499 on Amazon). Check out the video attached below to learn more about this currently free game on Steam.
