Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launched to positive reviews from fans and critics alike. As a successor to the well-revered Kingdom Come: Deliverance, it had a lot riding on it, and the sequel pretty much nailed it with consistent 9/10 scores. Currently, it sits at a little over 77,000 positive user reviews on Steam.
Like its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set in a medieval recreation of Europe. It has a vast open world with tons of stuff to do. Even something as mundane as brewing a potion requires you to go through a lengthy process of combining ingredients in a certain order. Get one step wrong, and you end up with a big bowl of nothing. Even saving the game requires you to brew a potion, and the concept of quick saves don't exist. If that seems too cumbersome, there's a mod over at NexusMods that enables that functionality.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 continues the story of the first game. Many would argue it is necessary to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance for immersion, but there's nothing wrong with experiencing the sequel by itself. The game starts off with the protagonist, Henry, travelling with Sir Hans Capon to deliver an important message. In true video game style, things quickly go south, and you essentially have to claw your way back up the social hierarchy.
Combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has somewhat of a steep learning curve, at least initially. It isn't your typical 'press one button to attack' type of situation. And if you play your cards right, you probably won't need to fight all that much. You can very well talk your way through most, if not all the game, given you invest in the right stats. Either way, you're in for a long haul because the game is true to life on multiple fronts. Walk for too long and your shoes get worn out. Don't bathe often, and people call you out for your body odour. The list is endless.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can be purchased on Steam for $48. Its Gold Edition retails will set you back by $64. Unlike other games that offer you in-game cosmetics, the Gold Edition here will get you four extra quests. Some reviewers argue it isn't the money, but your mileage may vary. The promotion ends on June 23, so you have some time to browse through reviews before committing to a purchase.
