AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D vs Intel Core i5-14450HX vs Intel Core i7-14700HX
AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D
► remove from comparison
The AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is a high-end notebook processor of the Fire Range series with 16 cores and hyperthreading (SMT), which means it can process up to 32 threads simultaneously. The CPU uses the new Zen 5 architecture for all 16 cores and clocks them at 2.5 to 5.4 GHz (single-core boost). As a special feature, the HX3D has an additional 64M 3D V-Cache on a CCD. This means that the CPU offers combined 128 MB L3 cache and 16 MB L2 cache. The chip was presented at CES in early 2025 and is intended for fast and expensive gaming notebooks.
AMD claims that the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is the fastest mobile gaming CPU. Based on the experience with its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, this is quite realistic. The 3D V-Cache in particular can accelerate demanding 3D games. However, the 16 fast Zen 5 cores should also provide enough power for all possible demanding applications.
The 9955HX3D is intended for large and heavy gaming notebooks and can therefore draw quite an amount of power (configurable from 55- to 75 watts TDP, default 55 watts). The SoC consists out of three dies on a package where the processor dies are manufactured in the modern 4nm 4nm FinFET process at TSMC (I/O die in 6nm) and should therefore still have a good energy efficiency.
Intel Core i5-14450HX
► remove from comparison
The Intel Core i5-14450HX is a mid-range CPU with 10 cores based on the Raptor Lake refresh series for large and heavy notebooks.
The total of 16 threads are divided into P-cores and E-cores, which we already know from Alder Lake. The 13450HX offers 6 performance cores (P-Cores, Raptor Cove or Golden Cove) with hyperthreading and 4 efficiency cores (E-Cores, Gracemont) without hyperthreading. The P-cores clock from 2.4 GHz (base clock) to 4.8 GHz (all cores) or 4.6 GHz (single core). The E-cores clock from 1.8 - 3.5 GHz. Compared to the older Core i5-13450HX the CPU cores are clocked slightly higher.
Compared to Alder Lake, the new Raptor Lake architecture offers improved P-cores (Raptor Cove architecture with more cache), more E-cores (same Gracemont architecture) and higher clock rates thanks to the improved Intel 7 process. In addition, Intel now supports faster DDR5 main memory in the top models (up to 5600 MHz, in the refresh now also in the i5).
The 14450HX is manufactured in the further improved 10nm FinFET process at Intel (Intel 7 process) and is specified with 55 watts base power and 157 watts turbo power.
Intel Core i7-14700HX
► remove from comparison
The Intel Core i7-14700HX is a high-end CPU based on the new Raptor Lake architecture for large and heavy notebooks. The CPU was introduced at the beginning of 2024 as part of the Raptor Lake HX refresh. The i7-14700HX is similar to the Core i7-13850HX with slightly higher clocked CPU cores.
The total of 28 threads are divided into P-cores and E-cores, which we already know from Alder Lake. The 14700HX offers 8 performance cores (P-cores) with hyperthreading and 12 efficiency cores (E-cores) without hyperthreading. A total of 28 threads are therefore supported. The P-cores clock at up to 5.5 GHz (single core) and the E-cores up to 3.9 GHz. The integrated memory controller supports a maximum of DDR5 with 5600 MHz.
Compared to Alder Lake, the new Raptor Lake architecture offers improved P-cores (Raptor Cove architecture with more cache), more E-cores (same Gracemont architecture) and higher clock rates thanks to the improved Intel 7 process. Furthermore, Intel now supports faster DDR5 main memory (up to 5600 MHz) in the top models.
The 14700HX is manufactured on the older 10nm FinFET process at Intel (Intel 7 process) and is specified with 55 watts base power and 157 watts turbo power.
