Nothing said the design of the Nothing Phone (3), was ready 3 years ago, alongside the Nothing Phone (2)'s, in fact, it wanted to release the design with the Phone (2). The company added that in the 3-year period it kept the design embargoed, it was confident no other phone company will come up with a similar design.
But the reason it took 2 years to deliver the phone wasn't because Nothing just wanted to wait, or because it “didn't want to saturate the smartphone market” like most other phone companies do. The company said that while the Nothing Phone (3) was still on the way, the Nothing Phone (2a) (curr. $335 on Amazon) came around and became an instant hit, so it simply doubled down on the series.
As a result of this decision, Nothing ended up releasing 4 phones in the series before returning to the original series with the Nothing Phone (3). It remains to be seen whether Nothing will make a tradition out of this 2-year wait or call it quits.
For the Nothing Phone (3), Nothing made a radical change — it replaced the iconic glyph interface with what it calls the “glyph matrix” — a screen comprised of 489 individually addressable LED lights. Pricing will start at €799 for the base variant (12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage).
