New updates grace Poco F1 and Poco M2 Pro, but don't get your hopes high for MIUI 12 just yet; More Redmi K20/Mi 9T units meanwhile receive stable MIUI 12
The Pocophone F1, also known as the Poco F1 in some regions, was a popular flagship killer when it released back in 2018. Poco continued the trend this year as well with the latest Poco M2 Pro, which is essentially a rebranded Redmi Note 9 Pro. Both these devices have received an update today. Sadly though, it isn't the much anticipated MIUI 12.
The Pocophone F1 first launched with Android 8.1 Oreo on board and soon got updated to Android 10. However, the device still uses the MIUI 11 skin. Recently, we reported that the Poco F1 is now part of the MIUI 12 Global Stable Beta Phase 2 testing program in India and several other countries.
While it is expected that the Poco F1 will get MIUI 12 sometime in August after successful completion of Phase 2 testing, security patches for Android 10 based on MIUI 11 continue to be pushed out. As a result, Poco F1 owners can expect a new OTA update starting today that will bring the device up to the June 2020 security patch.
The latest MIUI 11 June 2020 security update weighs in at about 154 MB and carries a version number v11.0.8.0.QEJMIXM indicating this update is for all international units. Those who haven't received the update yet can manually download the bits from here.
Like the Pocophone F1, the Poco M2 Pro has also received a new software update in India. Though the Poco M2 Pro is the latest Poco offering and has only gone on sale today in India, it still features the older MIUI 11 skin. The official changelog just reads "Optimized system performance, Improved system security and stability", so it's just the regular bug fixes and performance improvements on offer. Still, early buyers who do not wish to wait for the OTA bits to arrive can download it manually from here. Note that the new version is v11.0.2.0.QJPINXM.
It is not yet clear when the Poco M2 Pro would be receiving MIUI 12. However, considering that it is a very new device, it shouldn't take too long for Xiaomi to prioritize it in the coming weeks.
In a related development, even more Redmi K20 (Mi 9T) units in India are being offered the stable MIUI 12 ROM. The Redmi K20 was offered MIUI 12 stable beta earlier this month with the final bits starting to rollout to global users just a few days ago. With Xiaomi seeding the update to even more devices, a majority of the Redmi K20 units should hopefully be receiving MIUI 12 in the next few days.
