New Xiaomi Poco X8 Pro Max struggles in early benchmarks with global launch date revealed

One of Xiaomi's new Poco X series smartphones has turned up on Geekbench before its upcoming release. To recap, the company confirmed on March 4 that two new Poco X Pro smartphones would soon be launching globally. As we covered at the time, Xiaomi also revealed that these devices would leverage MediaTek's Dimensity 8500 Ultra and Dimensity 9500s chipsets.
Now, the latter variant has surfaced across multiple early benchmarks. All referred to as Xiaomi 2602BPC18G, the model number '2602BPC18G' has already been linked to the retail name 'Poco X8 Pro Max'. On the one hand, the listings confirm that Xiaomi plans to sell the Poco X8 Pro Max with 12 GB of RAM.
Based on other leaks, this will be the only RAM configuration in which the Poco X8 Pro Max will be available. Reportedly, the Poco X8 Pro Max will start at €529 (~$610) with 256 GB of storage and will rise by €50 (~$60) for twice as much storage. On the other hand, the listings provide insights into the device's prospective performance.
According to our benchmarks, single-core averages of 2,673 put the Poco X8 Pro Max ahead of older Dimensity 9400 and Dimensity 9400 Plus-powered flagships but over 10% short of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5-powered OnePlus 15R (curr. $699 on Amazon). Likewise, multi-core averages of 8,471 see the Poco X8 Pro Max coming up well short of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Dimensity 9500-powered devices we have tested so far. Currently, Xiaomi is expected to launch the Poco X8 Pro Max globally on March 17.
