Garmin has launched a new beta update for the Fenix 6, Fenix 6 Pro, Marq, Enduro, Quatix 6 and Tactix Delta smartwatches. Version 28.01 arrives a couple of weeks after version 28.00, which was said to be a release candidate. This means that Garmin intended to push a live version of this update to all users. However, it has held off to work on another issue.
The change log for version 28.01 states that it fixes a problem that meant that the music controls widget could cause the smartwatches to shut down unexpectedly. This bug was reported by a user with an Enduro smartwatch (curr. $349.99 at Amazon), only occurring when trying to control music during an activity. Another issue flagged by users after the beta version 28.00 update is faster than expected battery drain. However, Garmin has not acknowledged this problem.
In a post on its forum, the company confirmed that version 28.01 was now available for 50% of users of the Fenix 6 and related smartwatches. Users have the option to manually download the update by going to Menu -> System -> Software Update -> Check For Updates. Again, version 28.01 is listed as a release candidate, so it could reach all users soon. In addition to this music-related bug fix, it would add a legal disclaimer to storm alerts and resolve issues with elevation alerts and slow loading notifications.
