Casio has developed a sauna watch, which will soon crowdfund on the Makuake platform in Japan. The wearable is specifically designed for regular sauna users with a 12-minute timer, a commonly recommended length of time for the activity.
As well as the timer, the watch can also show the time, with two buttons to switch modes and reset. There are three round-faced models: the Casio model/Orange CPP-002-OR, the Casio model/black CPP-002-BK and the Sauna Ikitai Model/Blue CPP-002-BU. As its name suggests, this last model is designed in collaboration with the online sauna database Sauna Ikitai. Each variant has a locker key-inspired stretchy wristband and a 5 ATM water resistance rating. The resin used for the watch body is said to have low moisture permeability, and the battery is heat resistant, lasting for up to five years.
The Makuake crowdfunding campaign will begin on December 2nd and is expected to run for three months. It is unclear what pledge backers will have to make for the Casio CPP-002 sauna watch, or what its retail price will be. It is worth noting that the company will only ship the product to customers in Japan; there is no indication of an international rollout at this stage. If you are looking for a waterproof Casio watch, you could consider the W-800H-1AVCF which offers 100m (~330 ft) water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and snorkelling. This model is currently available at Amazon US for $21.92.
